This is an entire lesson on converting metric units of capacity and mass that I did with my year 6 class. There is a starter on multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000 to prepare them for the lesson. There are opportunities to discuss which units of measurement they would use to measure certain items and to deepen their understanding of units of measurement (even better if this can be done alongside physical objects). There are lots of differentiated practice questions to complete on the whiteboards (with answers on next slide to quickly check). There is a slide with the Learning Objective and a challenge question which I display while they’re completing independent work. I have included a slide which has work for LA, MA and HA and can be printed off or the class can choose their level from the board (save paper). I have included the answers on the last slides so that you can mark quickly or get the class to mark their own work! I have also included practice SATs style questions to stick in the books as a challenge when marking.

I taught this lesson to strengthen my year 6’s confidence in their place value and to help them answer the questions in the SATs arithmetic like 6-4.56 or 7-4.569. We discussed that, by the end of the lessons, some of them might be more confident to answer the question using a number line and some might be more confident to use the formal written method but that they should all be able to have the option. There are lots of opportunities for modelling and lots of differentiated practice questions (with the answers). At the end, I have included a slide that is a printable worksheet or get your pupils to work from the board to save paper. I always display the LO and Challenge question while they’re working independently so they can complete this when they’ve finished. The final slide is the answers to save valuable teacher time!

These four year 6 lessons (both on long division with some short division for your Lower Attainers) contain lots of differentiated practice questions with answers. All the lessons feature a final printable differentiated slide which can be used for independent work; if you want to save paper, the students can work from the board. I have included the answers for the independent work for both lessons to save our valuable teacher time!

This is 2 complete lessons on multiplying proper fractions and mixed numbers; it includes differentiated practice questions, a printable (differentiated) worksheet and the answers to save our valuable teacher time. Why not get your class to self-assess at the end of the lesson?

These two lessons include PowerPoint slides with starters on square, cube numbers and factors. They then move onto differentiated practice questions to practise plotting points with given coordinates and writing coordinates on all four quadrants. I made sure that I have laminated four quadrant grids for my class to practise on. Each lesson includes work documents labelled as LA, MA and HA (day 2 is LA2, MA2 and HA2) which are for independent work and a challenge question you can display on the board for once they finish. This could be done as a plenary.

These are two lessons I did with my year 6 class on finding fractions of amounts. It has lots of visuals showing how to find fractions of amounts. They contain lots of animations because it was easier to teach my class online this way! There are lots of differentiated practice questions with the answers of the next slide. For independent work, there is a differentiated slide which can be printed as a worksheet or the pupils can work from the board (if you want to save paper!). While they are completing their independent work, you can display the slide with the challenge on it which they can complete when they’ve finished. Four entire lessons on comparing fractions that I have used to teach my year 6 class throughout the year. Each lesson has mental starter, chances for the teacher to discuss and model the method, differentiated practice slides and a final slide which can be printed off as a worksheet. Finally, I have included challenge questions which can be displayed while the children are working independently and that they can complete when they have finished. I have included the answers on a separate slide which you can use to get your class to mark their own work or just make the teacher’s marking quicker! Spread these out during the Autumn, Spring and Summer term!

These two lessons (which I made for my class when home learning) both contain lots of differentiated practice questions with clear visual explanations. Both lessons have a slide with questions differentiated 3 ways for independent work after teaching. This can printed off or they can work from the interactive whiteboard . I have included the answers so that you can get your class to self-mark or just to speed up your marking process (and save your valuable teacher time!).

Used on two consecutive days for my year 6 class that has a range of abilities. This lesson starts off with two opportunities to discuss the method of how to round numbers. The method I usually teach my class is to circle the place value column you are rounding to. For instance, if you are rounding 456 to the nearest ten , circle the 5. Then underline the number to its right and this will tell you whether you round up or down. The PowerPoint then moves onto differentiated practice questions (answers on next slide so you can check the children’s whiteboards quickly). The final slide has steps to success and a challange question for the class to complete when they have finished their work. The worksheets are differentiated five ways. Two possible options for your LAs (indicated by ), one option for your MAs () and two options for your HAs (). The answers are at the end in case you want your class to mark their own answers and save teacher time! The second lesson is what I did the next day with my class as some of my Middle Ability children still were not secure. I have moved the class onto to rounding larger numbers to the nearest ten thousand and one hundred thousand. The questions are on the slides this time and include answers.

This is 8 weeks worth of Maths homework. Differentiated mostly for 4 levels (Spicy, Spicier, Spiciest and Scotch Bonnet). The children can choose their own level of difficulty or you can allocate what level they do. I gave one of these to my year 6 class each week of the 8 week Autumn Term (they cover place value and the four operations). The answers are at the end to make it easier and quicker to mark. I used these lessons on my year 6 class in the Autumn Term. Lesson 1 is simplifying fractions which is important when converting 60% to 60/100 to 3/5. Lesson 2 is converting fractions into percentages -obviously they need to memorise these eventually. Lesson 3 focuses on converting decimals to percentages by multiplying and dividing by 100. It also includes converting these into fractions too. Lesson 4 is a revision lesson on all these skills because my class needed one more lesson on FDP equivalents. In all these lessons, there are opportunities for teacher modelling, differentiated practice questions, a printable differentiated worksheet for independent work and the answers to save valuable teacher time. I usually display the challenge question with the Learning Objective while they’re doing their independent work so they can have a challenge when they’ve finished. Some of the lessons have further challenge questions to stick into the books.
