Twisted History/ Literacy Activity USA Planned to Nuke the Moon

(0)
Fun and engaging activity that could be used as a lesson starter or part of a range of lesson activities. Targeted at Year 10 History Cold War studies but suitable for all high school students. Part 1- give students the word list sheet only for them to fill out (print the first two pages 2 into 1- half per student ) and get them to fill it out (guide as necessary). Part 2- give them the next 2 pages (print two into one again two sides per student) and get them to write the list of words they created in order to make a twisted version of this history story. They can then share their story with a friend and complete the questions. ENJOY! Students love this activity. The same idea could be used with a range of history stories (but pick the text and audience to ensure it is respectful where appropriate). Already weird chapters of history work best for this.

Anachronisms

ALL DUE CREDIT HERE: I’ve added to and modified PPT by TES SECONDARY TEAM (which they in turn adapted from alainchristian’s on TES Connect). Isn't sharing ideas and borrowing from others what us teachers do anyway? I’ve added more slides and information and adjusted some sections. I’ve also added a 'trick' question to test if students really know the definition of an anachronism; the photo is certainly something you don't see everyday. Also added- accompanying worksheet and another file with some useful video URLs (hyperlinks removed as per TES requirements) for examples of anachronisms.

WORKSHEET to accompany a video available on Youtube (details on the worksheet) Viking warriors- print pages 1-2 two pages into one. A good 'light' lesson for a Friday afternoon. 9/3/17Apparently the Youtube video is no longer there but Terry Schappert's series can be purchased online via Amazon and other sites and also streamed e.g. http://www.videodetective.com/tv/warriors-sneak-peek/629132 Alternatively, you can simply adapt this FREE worksheet and effective lesson idea to another Vikings video you source yourself of which there are many available in video stores, youtube and other online sites.

Otzi the Iceman information and essay task

(1)
Information about Otzi and a related essay task. This is for Year 11 Ancient History topic 1b Ancient Human Remains and designed as a revision task and essay practice. Note that the 'EdModo' source mentioned is just a copy of this document as my students accessed it electronically rather than me wasting paper. The 'Iceman Murder' documentary mentioned is from BBC and is available on Clickview Online if your school has access to this. Otherwise, there are similar documentaries available on Youtube.
Book work marking checklists

Book work marking checklists

From experience, I have found that no matter how many times you tell students what is expected with bookwork, many will 'forget' or not complete all aspects of expectations. To combat this, I have created a bookwork expectations list to be handed out each year/semester and glued into books so students have this in information in a concrete form. Then, I also have added a periodical self-checklist and marking sheet designed to be glued in every 10 pages or so. Students then complete the self checklist and hand in their book for marking. A teacher marking schedule is also included.
