Hi,
We are Sally and Amanda from Guinea Pig Education. We present a range of complimentary teaching aids and workbooks to use in your classroom or as homework – in both print and digital format.
We aim to raise reading standards and to develop literacy skills, with our ‘fun for kids’ phonic reading resources.
We also offer support for pupils aged 4-16 years. We highly recommend our comprehension and creative writing resources - which build confidence and develop imagination.
This resource will help students practise writing discursive arguments (9-16 years). Includes two questions for kids to consider:
In light of recent media reports, are newspapers and news channels responsible for causing widespread panic about the coronavirus outbreak, Covid-19? (9-16 years)
Should we do everything we can to stop the spread of coronavirus or should we let the virus just run its course?
We prepared this resource, in order to help young people, deal with the sensitive and frightening issues around coronavirus. By discussing these issues, it will help young people to deal with the crisis.
This resource can be used as a starting point for writing your own discursive essay, as well as for class discussions around this topic. A plan and sample essay is provided and a second thorough plan (with many points for and against) is provided, so the young person can write a second essay on the topic.

Some children are feeling a bit worried about the coming of Coronavirus. They have overheard adults conversations and seen scary news reports on television. Is it, Therefore, not important that we discuss coronavirus and the issues around it with our children? We have written these pages to help them to understand how they can keep safe. Our cute character Pom Pom the Pomeranian gives them some instructions on hygiene and vigilence, which can be printed out and laminated for your classroom or washroom wall. Also included are some printable pages for children to fill in, using what they have learnt about hygiene.
How to get a good grade in paper 1 of the GCSE English exam (grades 1-9).
These pages contain helpful hints on how to answer the questions to gain top grades in the new English exam (which changed in 2017).
Many students may fall into the trap of writing good answers for the first three questions and then losing focus or running out of time on the last two questions. If students read these pages, they will see it is very important to know how the paper is organised, to time themselves and to write a well structured answer for questions, such as question 4, that are worth 20 marks.
In other words, these pages teach exam technique.
In this resource, the author of ‘Learn To Read With Phonics’ (who has over 30 years experience, teaching children to read with phonics) outlines how she uses a programme of traditional phonics to teach children to read fast.
