Calligram Worksheets

(1)
Two differentiated worksheets for Calligrams, suggested for year 1 or year 2. The first worksheet sheet contains a table with a word in which the pupil then has to create a calligram in the other column. The second worksheet offers more support, with a cartoon picture and the word that it is describing, with a box for the pupil to create a calligram in, with use of colour if needed. A great worksheet for visualising verbs and adjectives, and could also be used as a spelling exercise. Also excellent as a starter to creative writing and cross-curricular with Art.

Suggested topics/projects for each half-term are outlined, with most subjects then being linked with topic for that half-term. Subjects included in the document are: English, Phonics, SPaG/Grammar, Maths, Science, Geography, History, Computing, PHSE, RE and Art. Document is in Microsoft Word format so is easily editable. Aimed at teaching all Year 1 National Curriculum objectives and is also suitable for mixed Year 1/2 classes.

Shape Poetry Presentation and Poem template

(0)
A full PowerPoint presentation for teaching children about Shape Poetry. The PowerPoint is engaging for the whole class by asking different questions, using inference and comprehension skills by showing several examples of Shape Poems. There are also two templates of a house included for the children to write their own shape poem about their own house, a ‘dream’ house or haunted mansion etc. Excellent resources to use as part of a ‘Patterns on a Page’ topic or a Poetry topic for Years 1 - 3.

Questions and Commands Presentation and Worksheets

(0)
A PowerPoint presentation and 3 differentiated worksheets on questions and commands, ideal for a SPAG lesson or general English lesson in Year 2 or Year 3, or revision on questions and commands in any year group in KS2. Activities and questions are clear and engaging, and are useful for teaching children about when to use an exclamation mark or a question mark at the end of sentences. Some questions also ask to turn a command into a question, and vice versa. I recently used these worksheets for an observed lesson in a mixed ability Year 2 class in which children enjoyed completing and made very good progress, with the lesson being graded as ‘Outstanding’
