Fifteen fully resourced lessons that complete a unit of work for Year 5 in place value.
Most lessons bar the Roman Numeral lesson are double lessons, sharing the same objective and resources.
The lesson sequence of the unit is as follows:
Lesson 1 and 2 - Place Value up to 100,000
Lesson 3 and 4 - Compare and order numbers up to 100,000
Lesson 5 and 6 - Round numbers to the nearest 10, 100 or 1000
Lesson 7 and 8 - Place Value up to 1,000,000
Lesson 9 and 10 - Compare and order numbers up to 1,000,000
Lesson 11 and 12 - Round numbers up to the nearest 100,000
Lesson 13 and 14 - Negative numbers
Lesson 15 - Roman Numerals
Each double lesson includes a PowerPoint which starts with an arithmetic starter for each lesson (based on key Year 4 objectives they would have focused on). The first lesson then includes a number of teaching points which are then recapped as part of the second lesson.
Also included is an activity that can be used over the double lesson, alongside challenge questions for anyone who has finished. Answer sheets are included for both.
The Roman Numeral lesson stands alone as a single lesson with a range of potential activities included.
