A fun way to end or start the term.
The game is based on Catch Phrase where children guess what the popular phrase or word is based on the pictures they see.
This involves thinking and speaking and listening.
Children enjoy this game in groups.
There are 35 picture cards which can be cut up and laminated(for reuse) or pages can be used as they are with 4 cards to a page.
There is a suggested answer sheet at the end, that children or the teacher, can use to mark off answers. (Some pictures could have an equally feasible alternate catch phrase or word).
As a follow up, children could make up their own pictures based on familiar sayings or those on a theme such as football or animals.
Children can research any sayings they are not familiar with. Links to language learning also.
“Spelling Bee Phonics Activity Set,” is an interactive resource designed to enhance phonics learning in the classroom. Useful for Key Stage 1 teachers who are looking for engaging ways to assess, practice, and consolidate children’s understanding of phonics and CVC words.
Each set includes five ‘honeycomb’ cards, each centered around a different vowel - ‘a’, ‘e’, ‘i’, ‘o’, or ‘u’. The activity encourages children to use their phonics skills to form and write up to 6 CVC words. Examples of words for the ‘a’ card could be ‘pet’, ‘pen’, ‘ten’, ‘met’, ‘peg’, and ‘meg’.
The cards can be cut out and used in a multitude of ways: as stand-alone worksheets, additions to a writing corner, or even as flashcards. Also included are handy templates, allowing teachers to create more customized cards, extending the use of the resource.
The templates can be used to set homework tasks, or children can create their own cards to test their friends or use for self-practice.

Sheets 1 and 2 - Pictures for children to say and write the initial sounds underneath.
Sheets 3 and 4 - Lower case letters of the alphabet. Can children say the letter and name an object beginning with each letter? Teacher could write the words for the children or the children could draw a picture themselves.
Sheets 5 and 6 - Lower case letter for children to name and write over to assess their handwriting.
Sheet 7 is a blank template to be used any way you want for e.g. for children to write letters as you say them or write a word/draw a picture for a given sound.
