A small starter or plenary activity.
Suitable for GCSE/KS3/KS4/SEN
Cut out descriptions and characters and give to students.
They have to read the descriptions and draw picture of that character.
Students then match description to the real fictional character.
Good for getting students thinking about descriptions and creative writing.

My students are currently studying AQA Step Up to English, in preparation for their exam I created this resource to give them a practice for the real exam. This can be adapted for GCSE and KS3 purposes.
We have been studying component 2- Family
For this we have done a series of lessons based on The Secret Garden and The Railway Children.
I have used the AQA exam paper for this module and adapted it to fit in with the two books.
This is a good revision exercise for your students before they sit the paper or students that want to practice some English skills pre-GCSE.

Treasure Island- Robert Louis Stevenson English differentiated activity
This resource can be adapted for students from KS3-KS4.
There are two activities for students to complete.
They can either create a storyboard using the time-line given to them or they can create their own time-line from the pictures.
HA students write their own time-line.
Resource can be adapted to suit different needs and abilities

Can be used alongside Charlie and the Chocolate Factory audio or text.

I made this resource for my low ability careers group but it can be adapted for more able students.

Students match the job descriptions with the job images.
Writing frames included.
Suitable for SEN.
For HA students could take descriptions out of the writing frame and get them to write their own.
This writing mat is perfect for laminating so students can use wipe board pens and improve their literacy skills.
This works really well with SEN students who need visual support to help develop their writing.
You can then photocopy the mat or get students to write out neatly in their books.

A brief look at the story of Hercules and his 12 labours - Comprehension activity
Task two is looking at verbs, adverbs and adjectives using the mystical beasts from Hercules. Students are asked to write their own descriptive sentences
Task 3 is writing a diary entry for Hercules and one of his labours
Task 4 and Task 5 look at two different myths and legends, students asked to identify verbs, adverbs and adjectives from the texts. I could not inlcude the texts due to copyright but the texts are hyperlinked in the slides
This can be used as part of a KS3/4 curriculum in English but has been made for AQA Step up to English lessons.

I have created a engaging and interactive revision booklet for GCSE students who are sitting their GCSE.
It is focused around the writing questions (section B of the exams) AO5/6
(it can be used for other exam boards also)
It is detailed and contains key information regarding both papers with various exam style activities to aid revision. Each paper is broken down and contains revision material
It also looks at the stages of PAF, Linguistic techniques SPAG
It contains up to 40 pages and would fill a weeks worth of lessons easily. This can also be printed for students to complete independently for homework/revision.
My students have found this a worthwhile booklet and it has helped them loads
It can be adapted to suit different abilities
