Place differentiation at the heart of your lesson planning with this easy to use template. This word document enables you to quickly plan your lesson on one side of A4, whilst encouraging you to differentiate activities, outcomes and support. This is ideal for all subjects and student ability levels, and especially for those teachers struggling to come to terms with differentiation in their lessons. It also helps structure the lesson into the starter, main activity, assessment for learning, and the plenary. 1 x lesson plan template in word format 1 x instruction sheet in word format

Stuart Hall's Audience Reception Theory - Applied to a TV commercial

(0)
In this 16 slide PowerPoint lesson, Stuart Hall's Audience Reception theory is introduced using a (slightly rude!) mnemonic. The theory is then applied to the Lynx Find Your Magic TV commercial (YouTube link provided within the PowerPoint). Screenshots of the ad appear alongside suggested notes related to the preferred, oppositional and negotiated readings of the ad. Learning is consolidated with an essay question at the end of the lesson. This would be an ideal way of demonstrating the theory in action. Useful teacher notes are provided in the notes panel when viewing the PowerPoint in edit mode. Improve revision with mnemonics

(0)
PREVIEW IMAGES AVAILABLE AT https://sites.google.com/view/mediamnemonics/home An entertaining PowerPoint presentation that introduces students to memory techniques (mnemonics) to help make their revision more effective. The 18 slide presentation includes links to YouTube clips on memory as well as the work of Daniel T. Willingham, B.A. Ph. D, a Professor of Psychology at the University of Virginia. It also includes a fun activity that demonstrates the power of images when revising. This would make an excellent start to the revision process, or even an assembly for Year 11 students as they begin the exam season. The final slide also provides links to a range of YouTube videos that both teachers and students would find useful - or inspiring! Further support and advice is available via mediamnemonics@gmail.com.

Media Studies - Audience Reception Theory Mnemonic

(0)
An introduction to Stuart Hall's Audience Reception Theory , with a very memorable (if a little rude - we use the word 'shart'!) mnemonic to make it stick! Newspaper front pages are used to define the theory, so this would be particularly useful for the WJEC Media GCSE exam. PREVIEW IMAGES AVAILABLE AT https://sites.google.com/view/mediamnemonics/home

How to research with The Research Road Map

(0)
4 engaging PowerPoints designed to show students how to research in a systematic way: 1 PowerPoint introducing the Research Road Map, which is basically a memorable way of structuring research. Stage 1 - what do I need to find out? Stage 2 - Where do I find it? Stage 3 - How do I record it? 2 PowerPoints on note taking and trash and treasure techniques. Stage 4 - How do I use it? 1 PowerPoint on using the PEE chain to use the research. This would be an ideal way of starting a project or piece of work that requires the students to research independently. The principles apply to all year groups.

5 Photoshop skills handout - magazine covers and contents pages

For the uninitiated, Photoshop can be a nightmare - especially if you need to get your students to produce top quality coursework. But in reality there are only a certain number of skills you actually need. These 5 handouts give your students the essential skills to be able to produce a top quality magazine cover, contents page or article. It takes them through the stages step by step, with screen grabs to indicate which tools they should be using. These are the handouts I have used for 3 years to help generate A grade GCSE and A Level work. 1. Cutting out images (so you can overlap the masthead and create montages on the front page) 2. Creating consistent section and article headings on a contents page 3. Creating a contents page ensuring it is in columns and also showing how to download cool fonts 4. Using the mask tool to place a model over the masthead without having to cut them out 5. Running text around a shape and adding drop caps, for example at the start of an article Disclaimer: They do assume a little knowledge and initiative!

A 21 slide PowerPoint lesson and handout introducing students to the concept of News Selection and News Values, using a mnemonic to aid recall. The lesson includes a hands on exercise where students work as news teams to choose stories for a newspaper front page, a task that helps them grasp the principle that events are selected and chosen for a particular audience. Students consolidate their knowledge and understanding completing a one page handout (Word doc.) Please read the notes section at the bottom of the PowerPoint when it edit view for guidance for each slide. The Evidence Based Lesson Plan

The Evidence Based Lesson Plan

(0)
Rather than wasting time on gimmicks, the latest educational fad or relying on hunches and guesswork, the Evidence Based Lesson Plan template is based entirely on the latest research about what actually works in the classroom. The key findings from Barack Rosenshine's review of cognitive science and classroom studies ('Principles of Instruction - Research Based Strategies that every teacher should know') are used to create an easy to use four part lesson plan template. Each component of the plan is clearly linked to the research to give the teacher every chance of delivering a highly effective lesson. The template also builds in differentiation by encouraging the teacher to think about their class as three distinct groups - lower, middle and higher ability. The resource is made up of a two page Word document and PowerPoint template: Word Document Page 1 - the lesson plan template. Page 2 - the research, clearly linked to each component of the lesson. Please note - this critical, detailed explanatory page is not visible on the preview images. Powerpoint Template A basic template ready for content to be added. Prompts on each slide. See the notes panel at the bottom of the screen in edit mode for the links to the research findings. The research paper is referenced in a recent TES article which can be found by pasting the following link into your browser: https://www.tes.com/news/school-news/breaking-views/are-these-7-pillars-classroom-practice

The Power of Mnemonics - PowerPoint lesson demonstration

(0)
This easy to follow PowerPoint demonstrates the power of mnemonics in a very practical and dramatic way. In one 45 - 60 minute lesson, students will amaze themselves with how well they can remember the 17 battles in the Wars of the Roses (in the correct order!), as well as the names and colours of the two families, and the century they took place in. This tried and tested lesson never fails to convince students about the power of mnemonics. One student recently went from 6/22 to 21/22 in one 45 minute lesson.
