This is the third lesson in my SOW for Y7 which introduces students to the 4 key areas of life in 1066 and (monarchy/religion/the people/law and order) and focuses on improving literacy skills (PEE paragraphs) in history using clear and engaging scaffolds. The lesson is ideal for paired/group work and was originally planned for a mixed ability group.

Lesson 5 in my SOW - one of my favourite lessons to teach because they students have so much fun! This lesson is as engaging as you choose to make it - LAP adaptions of the resources have been included and this lesson was originally designed and taught at mixed ability students. This lesson covers Elizabeth I’s religious settlement. 4 Mark exam technique has been incorporated into the lesson. The lesson has been written for KS3 however it would be useful for LAP GCSE students studying the Elizabethan module for their GCSE.

This lesson details the progression from Motte and Bailey Castles to Stone Keep Castles in Medieval Britain. The lesson contains a 4 mark describe question to reflect on prior learning. The content covers the structure and features of stone keep castle and then looks further (through means of a carousel activity) advantages and disadvantages of stone keep castles. This would lead well to insert a Paper 1 ‘Interpretations Q’ for the new Spec AQA paper.

This lesson is designed for my current Y11 students starting AQA Paper 1 (Old Spec). It covers the content to the event through a detailed piece of writing which students work on independently at first then in groups to complete a worksheet. Students then use their knowledge of the event to practice and self mark a 6 mark question with heavy scaffolding to help students understand accurate exam structure. The lesson content covers the events of 1936 and the reaction of the leading European powers at the time (namely Britain & France) to Hitler’s violation of the Treaty of Versailles. Students consider how/why was Hitler able to get away with it and begin to consider how this could lead to WW2. Please review!

This lesson is the 4th lesson in my Slavery scheme of work. This Middle Passage lessons looks firstly at the journey and experience of slaves through the middle passage via the medium of a storyboard. Using a pack of resources, students then to consider in groups the Time/Author/Purpose/Place of each source. This lesson has been created with KS3 secondary history students in mind and is the second lesson in my Holocaust unit of work. This lesson has been created on Microsoft Powerpoint and the accompanying student worksheets have been created on Microsoft Word and Powerpoint . Teacher Notes & Answers have been added to the notes section underneath each relevant slide on the Powerpoint. Please check these before delivering the lesson to your student. They offer excellent source analysis support for teachers new to the topic. This resource is Lesson 2 in my Holocaust scheme of work. It’s aim is to explore the ways in which the Nazi’s used propaganda and stereotyping to humiliate and discredit the Jewish race in German society. This is to help students begin to understand how the Nazis then were able to turn society against the Jewish people and other minority groups which then paved the way towards Holocaust and eventual mass murder. This lesson is very heavily focused on working on students source analysis and interpretation skills using antisemitic propaganda that was distributed by the Nazi party in German society in the 1930’s. This lesson includes suggested learning objectives and outcomes and has been designed to be taught over the course of one hour - although it may run over. The utmost care has been taken to ensure this resource has been created with the utmost respect to the victims of the holocaust and to ensure that students have the opportunity to connect and empathise to the human beings to whom the attrocities of the holocaust were committed.** There a no graphic images of corpses in this resource.** I really hope you enjoy teaching this lesson to your students as much as I do! This lesson is the first of 2 detailing slave auctions. It makes links to human rights laws today and it practices skills of source inference and empathy. To access this lesson to its fullest extent Roots Slave auction is best to be watched. It is better to watch the fuller thing on DVD but below is a quick Youtube link to the auction.

This includes assessment for the new style questions 1 - 3 (and Q4 to bring the paper out of 20). 2 interpretations on women are offered and the 3 new style questions to accompany. In addition the paper also incorporates a feedback and review lesson helping students (and teachers convert grades to the new 1 - 9 grades based on percentages. This is the grading system we have created for the use in my history dept. It also offers a conversion back to old levels and old lettered GCSE grades to help students understand their new grades better. Also attached is an alternative assessment I used with my Y9s which asks students to answer Q4 & 5 style questions. The assessment is for students who have been studying Paper 1D AQA new spec - economic boom and the roaring 1920s.

This lesson is designed for my current Y11 students starting AQA Paper 1 (Old Spec). It covers the content to the event in steps which studentscan work on either independently or in groups. The activity for this can be structured in a carousel if you wish. The event has been broken down in simple points as students can sometimes get a little confused with the names and agendas of people in Anschluss. Each step is accompanied by images to prompt memory. Quick AFL checkpoint in the form of a Pop Quiz is in there. The penultimate task in this lesson is for students to become familiar with the 10 mark question on Paper 1. Students are provided with the answer and have to figure out the exam technique behind it. What do they need to do and what do they not need to do. The question allows students to use prior knowledge of the Rhineland crisis and students then need to consider which event was more significant in causing ww2. Model answer & student scaffold are provided as part of the pack and all resources have been produced to an excellent standard. Please review!

This lesson looks at how William the Conqueror tried to maintain control of England following his 1066 invasion by introducing and implementing the Feudal System. The lesson looks at what a feudal system was/is and compares it in the modern day context. Students create their own fuedal system and a create piece of homework is set to allow students the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge Same style as all my previous lessons with high quality presentation and resources to ensure maximum student engagement.
