Allow students to apply their learned skills as they relate to sorting and classifying matter based on physical properties. This engaging nd rigorous project will prompt students to classify items (that yoy supply such as pencils, paperclips, cards, toys, etc) into three different categories. They will have to identify the categories as they see fit. They will be prompted with a few reflection questions that probe their thinking and offers insight for the teachers as to what their thinking was. To take it to the next level, students will got o the second page in which they need to re-classify their items into three new categories. With similar questions posed after. The clear directions and guided visuals will push students to apply concepts of matter, properties, and classification. This can easily be differentiated for students to use just two of the columns instead!

This mental math coaching exercise covers the topics of addition and subtraction and each sheet includes six problems. It is meant to be played one student vs one student in which student 1 coaches student 2 to find the sum. The sixth question on each one has the sum but is missing a box and students need to figure out what is missing. This is a great student-centered activity in which students support, explain, and teach each other while building number fluency, place value understanding and mnetal math skills. Check out this simple and student-friendly rubric which is meant to be used to evaluate student Social Studies journals. The rubric is broken into four categories, of which students can score between a 1 and a 4. Each score for each section includes explicit description of what you need to obtain that score. A guide on the bottom shows how to calculate up to a percentage grade. This is meant to be provided to the students, so they know what is expected of them with the journals, and then used to grade at the end of the quarter, or semester, or year. This fun and engaging project, clearly lays out the expectations for a simple interactive creation project in which students make a model of the basic human skeleton. Students are expected to include the major seven bones that outline our bodies, as well as include clear labels and answer a few simple questions. There is a rubric at the bottom, with pre-made scoring outlines to simplify assigning a fair and appropriate grade. The students will have a blast with this project, and they will deepen their understandings of the human skeleton!

It serves as great documentation when having conversations with other teachers, administrators, or parents about ongoing communication monitoring. Check out this awesome week long project in which students can explore simple machines in a more interactive way. With clear directions and expectations for each day, this project will push students to research one simple machine. You will need to create a sample for students to see, based on your expectations, but throughout the week, students will create some sort of presentation (ppt, poster, skit, etc.) and will ultimately present to their peers. I would suggest having students record notes on each others' presentations, as they will solely become the master of one. This can easily be adapted though for students to research each simple machine each day as well. A rubric and student-friendly directions are included!
