These engaging, visual writing prompts with pictures will get even your most reluctant writer writing! These fun writing prompts are no prep, just print and go. -These images are scaffolded by using the students senses to add interest to their writing Sensory details include sight, sound, touch, smell, and taste. -Writers employ the five senses to engage a reader’s interest. If you want your writing to jump off the page, then bring your reader into the world you are creating. -When describing a past event, try and remember what you saw, heard, touched, smelled, and tasted, then incorporate that into your writing. -Sensory details are used in any great story, literary or not. Think about your favourite movie or video game. What types of sounds and images are used? What do your favorite characters taste, smell, and touch? -Without sensory details, stories would fail to come to life. -When sensory details are used, your readers can personally experience whatever you’re trying to describe, reminding them of their own experiences, giving your writing a universal feel. A universal quality is conveyed when the writer can personally connect with the readers. -Another note about sensory details: there is no one sense that’s more important than another. It all depends on the scene you’re trying to create. However, imagery, the sight sense, is a common feature in vivid writing. -These are perfect for Writer’s Workshop, Work on Writing, Writing Centers, Substitute Teachers, and Fast Finishers. -These quirky picture prompts are a great way to let the kiddos choose what they want to write about, while also helping to spark their imaginations! -They are perfect for those “I don’t know what to write about!” kiddos. They are also great for Work on Writing during your Daily 5 time, writing centers, fast finishers, writing homework, or leaving for a substitute teacher! You will receive a zip file containing a PDF and PowerPoint version of this resource. Factors Multiples Prime and Composite Numbers Game - Gremlins and Creatures

(0)
Engage your students in practicing factors, multiples, prime, and composite numbers with this fun card game with engaging characters and bright colors Do your students need support with consolidation and practising their multiplication and factorisation skills? This fun and engaging game is perfect for math centres and as a fast finishing game for your class. This version features some crazy gremlins and creatures which are appealing to a range of age groups. SETTING UP THE CARDS 1.Duplicate the background slide, and print your number cards back to back with the striped background. This is the set of factor cards. 2.Create the Target cards, by printing the targets back to back as you did with the number cards. 3.Laminate the cards for durability- You may choose to print off and laminate the playing mats. HOW TO PLAY For 2-4 players 1.Shuffle the 7 factor cards (numbers 1-12), and deal 7 cards to each player. Place the rest of the deck face down on the table. 2.Shuffle the target cards and turn over the top card revealing the target number. 3.Let’s say the target card is 36, the player to the left of the dealer will look at the cards in their hand and see if any of them are a factor of 36. 4.If that player has a factor they will place it next to the target card, for instance, if it the player has a 4, they will say 9x4=36, and then the play will go to the next person to the left and continue until a player does not have a card that is a factor of the target number. That person then has to pick up ALL of the cards that have already been played. 5.The next player will turn over the next target card from the top of the pile, and play will continue. 6.The winner is the person who manages to get rid of all of the cards in their hand first. 7.Each player MUST say the multiplication face when playing their card. An affordable and versatile resource for any classroom. You will receive a zip file with an editable PowerPoint and a PDF for easy printing If you liked this game then you may enjoy these This is for use by one teacher in one classroom. How to use them •Arrange students into groups of four, placed around the Think Board’s four sections. Provide the students with one of the sections as a starting point and give them time to discuss the idea with their neighbours before deciding on what to record. •You can also work on a Think Board as a whole class or individually. Math Gameboards numbers 1-10

Set of colored and black and white game boards for your classroom kit. Each board game incorporates a spinner which can be used with a paper clip and a thumb tack with numbers 1-6 (If you don’t have dice handy) This has been incredibly popular with my younger students, who have created some fun games using these blank boards. I have used them with mini rubbers as playing pieces and the game rules that even the younger students came up with, were really amazing. I have extended this activity by using it as a literacy task where students have been asked to write a procedural text ie. how to play the game. What you need? How many players? How do you start? What are the rules? How is the winner determined? An affordable and versatile resource for any classroom.

Social Narrative-YOU ONLY NEED TO ASK A QUESTION ONCE-A Social Story

Social Narrative-YOU ONLY NEED TO ASK A QUESTION ONCE-A Social Story

(0)
A Social Narrative is an effective way to teach children how to navigate a new situation, such as starting school or preschool. Social Narratives can help children understand what to expect at school or preschool and they can be used to support orientation, which is particularly useful when children and families are not able to be on-site.  Teaching children how to ask a question only once is a common social skill that needs to be frequently addressed. As educators we always will say things like, “wait’ or “You asked that just a moment ago.”, however we need to explicitly teach these skills. This story can be used to help children to develop skills so that they can learn to function and integrate with other children in the classroom and other social settings.

GIFT VOUCHER cards for Mother, Fathers' day or Christmas

(0)
Do you need a last minute easy prep activity for your students for a special event day like Mothers’, Fathers’ days or Christmas.? These gift vouchers have special relevance for those receiving them as they really come from the heart . Before embarking on the project encourage the children to visualise the person who will be receiving the gift voucher. What do they really love? What do they always ask you to do for them? (It would be nice to do something without being asked) What are you able to do to help them How do you think they are going to feel when they receive these wonderful treats? It is so very important to make sure that the students understand their role in this activity. They must be prepared to follow through with their promise…no questions asked. Don’t put in vouchers for things that you are unable to do (eg mowing the lawn) •You may like to print off the color versions so that your students can either cut around them individually and then staple into a booklet or cut around them in pairs and then made into a booklet. •Create a blank cover for the booklets which has your students’ personalised design on it, or you may choose to use the ones provided in the resource. This is for use by one teacher in one classroom. If you would like to share with your colleagues, PLEASE purchase a multiple license. Thank you :) •Blank sheets are provided for students to create their own gift vouchers if they would like to add some additional ones. •Can be used for a variety of celebration days eg Mother and Fathers’ days, Christmas, teacher appreciation. Other suggested gift ideas: Walk the dog, weed the garden, water the garden, clean the blinds, wash the car, wash the bath, make lunches or a meal, pick a bunch of flowers, go for a walk together…have a brainstorming session with your kiddos and see what they come up with. Suitable for a wide range of students to use. This is for use by one teacher in one classroom. If you would like to share with your colleagues, PLEASE purchase a multiple license. Thank you :)

Do your students love kings, queens, jesters and castles? This resource is perfect for them. This is a powerpoint game which will help your students to develop their mathematical thinking skills with some fun problems from back in time. To get the maximum benefit from this resource, it is best to use the support worksheets provided (or their workbooks to show proof of working out). This can be used on the IWB or it can be used on GOOGLE SLIDES . This makes it an ideal resource for Distance Learning (PLEASE NOTE: the sounds will not appear in the online presentation and the fonts may appear to be different) This presentation will only work when it is in PRESENTATION MODE. It is essential that none of the slide order is changed because the slideshow is set up to link to each individual slide, depending on the students’ responses. This presentation has 1 questions- making it ideal to use as a bell ringer, or warm up activity for your math rotations. It can also be used as a stand-alone activity to focus on the area of working mathematically. Encourage your students to show their working out using some of the following strategies 1.Writing down all the information that is found in the number problem 2.Determining what ‘units’ need to be included in the answer eg there were 25 eggs 3.Draw their ideas on paper 4.Use concrete materials 5.Work with a partner to think-pair-share their thoughts 6.Discourage your students from clicking on any of the star responses until they have done the working.
