This is a guided writing task. It prompts creative writing by using scary images and work banks and examples of effective creative writing. The presentation then goes onto plan for a scary story and includes a review sheet at the end. This resource is best suited to Y7-9 or S1-S3 students. It could be used around Halloween time for a bit of fun in English!

This is a Halloween comprehension passage. It is in line with the SQA National 5 Reading for Understanding, Analysis and Evaluating paper. This resource comes with passage, a variety of questions (in your own words, summarise, language, link) and a marking scheme. It is targeted at S4 or Y10 pupils but could also be used by a decent S3 or Y9 class. The passage is adapted from a Guardian article on Halloween traditions being adopted in Australia. This could be used in clas or set as a homework assignment.

This is a high quality critical response to the question: Write about a play you have recently read which contains a flawed character who ultimately gains your admiration. There is also a task that encourages students to annotate this model essay and find examples of literary techniques/ analysis and links to the essay question.

This pack includes a comprehensive plan to encourage personal writing by thinking about appearance, best qualities, worst qualities and plans and ambitions. It also includes a model essay to illustrate good practice (which has been annotated to show effective word choices, imagery and punctuation). This resource could be used for younger secondary school students or could assist with National 5 folio- particularly in students who have missed class time (folio recovery).
