This ppt is for an activity I conducted with our soon-to-be year 7s on their transistion visit. It's a facilitated activity that encourages the pupils to (i) share their perceptions of the benefits of learning a language (ii) think about how learning a language will devlop their generic thinking and learning abilities (iii) reflect on how an MFL lesson, which they have just had, has fostered generic thinking and learning skills. It could be used with Year 7s at the start of their MFL career.

Text in which Homer Simpson talks about what there is to do in Springfield and compares it to Shelbyville. The text is followed by a True / False exercise, a find-the-phrase exercise, a manipulation exercise and a writing task.

A speaking (and possibly writing) activity in which students must use on-screen support to generate sentences about key characters in the film. The first page on the slide acts as a homepage, hyperlinking students to hidden photos of the characters.

The stimulus text here is an edited version of 'Internetdiscussion' which I've already uploaded. The statements for and against school uniform have been shortened and adapted slightly to fit the attitudes of the lead characters in the film 'Die Welle'. The texts are followed by comprehension activities and a manipulation exerecise.

Complete GCSE vocab list in German and English. I replaced the usual prosaic topic and sub-topic titles with song and film titles, song lyrics and some obscure quotations in a desperate attempt to make some of my revision-shy pupils look through it.

Dialogue in which a character from Das Wunder von Bern describes his relationships with other characters. The text is not from the film but is true in spirit to the relationships in the movie. The dialogue is followed by a comprehension exercise with questions in English.

TOOLKIT to help students formulate sentences in the Perfect relating to the environment

Reading comprehension activity. I have jumbled up an account of the plot of Mr Bean's holiday. Students have to read the eight mini-texts and put them in the correct order. Helpful, but not absolutely essential, to have seen the film. I have provided a solution and the original text. As a follow-up students could put the text into the first person or into the past tense or both.
