Complete lesson plan for written multiplication using grid method. This plan was designed for lower ability pupils so there is some extra scaffolding included that may be deleted for higher attaining pupils. The codebreaker should read “How do you make seven an even number? Take the S out!” when completed.

Differentiated Division Worksheet

(0)
A differentiated worksheet for division using bus stop method. Pupils can choose which section (out of 3) to attempt based on their own confidence. In the red section the "bus stop" has been set out for the pupils for all except the last four questions. In the amber section pupils need to set it out for them, with a worded question at the end. In the green section the first few questions give decimal answers, followed with some worded questions leading up to some multi step problems.

Adding/Subtracting Negatives Blockbuster

(0)
Fun and engaging class game based on the old TV show Blockbusters, with questions on how to add and subtract negative numbers. These range from fairly basic ones, to questions that cross 0, to ones with three numbers to add or subtract. Split the class into two teams, blue and white. The blue team must try to create a connected blue line from left to right, the white team must try to do the same from top to bottom. Click on the letters to link to the questions, if the answering team gets it right then click “Game board” to get back to the start, and click on the appropriate colour for that team to turn the tile blue or white.

Negative Number Operations Blockbusters Collection

(1)
A collection of three Blockbusters games I made to practice negative number operations with my middle ability year 9 intervention group. One focuses on addition and subtraction, another on multiplication and division, while the last has a mix of all four with some BIDMAS questions thrown in for good measure that can really catch them out if they aren't concentrating! Editable to change the numbers and answers if you want to use it with lower or higher ability pupils.

Simplifying Fractions - Minimally Different Questions
prof689prof689

Simplifying Fractions - Minimally Different Questions

(0)
A worksheet of fractions to simplify where the questions change only slightly each time. Two sheets per slide, designed to be cut down to A5. The purpose of this is for pupils to start looking at (facilitated as needed by the teacher) the patterns from question to question and start predicting the answers based on the change in the question rather than just working it out as normal. Includes mixed numbers, improper fractions, simplifying to whole numbers and a few slightly algebraic ones. Answers included.
Mode, Median and Range Lesson Slides
prof689prof689

Mode, Median and Range Lesson Slides

(0)
A complete lesson plan on Mode, Median and Range. The lesson begins with a prior knowledge check, then goes through each skill, with complete example-problem pairs (pupils are shown an example and complete a question themselves). After these examples there are questions on each skill, with answers provided. These start with some minimally different questions, allowing pupils to focus on what is changing from one question to the next - the idea being to draw attention to the changes and hopefully predict the next answer. These are followed by some standard skill questions, and then a reasoning section. The answers for the minimally different questions will appear before going to the next slide (which will also display the standard questions, alongside the reasoning questions) , so you may have pupils self assess these before moving on to the reasoning questions. After the practice for the median is completed there is an Always, Sometimes, Never task, followed by a mixed exercise for further practice. Again, answers are provided.
Finding the Range Worksheet
prof689prof689

(0)
Three stage worksheet for finding the range of a set of data. In the first section the questions are started for the pupils, with support gradually removed. The second section is to develop fluency, starting with some questions with minimal changes and developing the difficulty to include questions involving decimals and negative numbers. The third section is for reasoning questions to help develop pupils understanding of the concept.
Addition and Subtraction Bingo Games
prof689prof689

Addition and Subtraction Bingo Games

(0)
Two bingo activities based on addition and subtraction. These bingo games are always popular and have regularly engaged my pupils in lessons, and they have often requested that we do them again. Pupils can either draw a 3 x 3 grid in their book, or you can print off some of the blank grids at the start if the powerpoints. They then fill their grid with a selection of the bingo question answers. Can play for both a line and a full house to extend the game or keep pupils interested if their questions aren't coming up often.
Addition and Subtraction Fill The Grid Settlers
prof689prof689

Addition and Subtraction Fill The Grid Settlers

(0)
Four lesson starters, easily editable, practicing addition and subtraction (two each). Just play the slideshow as pupils enter and it will continue on a loop. Two squares of a 4 x 4 grid will be revealed on each slide, showing a question. Pupils have to draw the grid and complete it with the correct answers in each square. These resources engage pupils as they need to pay careful attention to see which answer goes where, and so they are settled, ready for the lesson ahead - this activity is ideal for low ability pupils as it gives them an activity they can access right at the start of the lesson. Answers are included in a separate document.
Division Blockbusters Game
prof689prof689

Division Blockbusters Game

(0)
Fun and engaging blockbusters activity for the classroom based on the classic TV show. This particular activity is designed to help pupils consolidate their written division skills. Split the class into two teams and assign each one to be either blue or white. Each team takes turns to choose a letter that will then reveal a question. If they get the question right make the tile their colour by clicking the blue or white boxes on each tile. The blue team win if they make a connected row across the screen, and the white team win if they make one going down. Because the blue team have another tile to complete, they should go first.

Division Bingo

(0)
Engaging bingo activity based on division. Bingo is always popular with pupils and I have regularly used them in my lessons - my students have often requested them, or that we do them again after the first go. Pupils can either draw a 3 x 3 grid in their book, or you can print off some of the blank grids at the start of the powerpoint. They then fill their grid with a selection of the bingo question answers. Can play for both a line and a full house to extend the game or keep pupils interested if their questions aren't coming up often. For replayability, the slide questions can be rearranged so they come up in a different order.
