This project is based around 22 lessons. It covers the following topics and links into the WJEC Hospitality and Catering course: Personal hygiene and safety Food poisoning bacteria Knife safety The Eatwell Guide Childhood obesity There are two PowerPoint presentations; a 97 slide teacher version which includes starter and plenary activities for all lessons, and a shorter pupil version (these are the slies that make up the pupil booklet and require printing, or uploading if completing digitally). All videos, additional presentations etc. are hyperlinked to the presentations, as well as to the Scheme of Work.

This is a 20 lesson Scheme of Work (24 lessons if you split the practical lessons into half classes). It is based on Curriculum for Wales, and includes Welsh headings, and Welsh language extension tasks suitable for Welsh as a second language pupils. The project leads into WJEC Hospitality and Catering and covers: Food hygiene and safety The function of nutrients and special diets Cooking methods and the effect on the nutritional value The Scheme of Work includes starter and plenary activities, and all files and videos are hyperlinked. There is a 105 slide PowerPoint for teachers, and a reduced version (minus lesson objectives etc.) to be printed for pupils.

Learning objectives: To know trends in the UK Hospitality and Catering Industry To know and understand how hospitality and catering provision adapts to satisfy media interest and influence. To know and understand how awareness of competition from other providers affects hospitality and catering provision. To know and understand how environmental concerns, and seasonality impact hospitality and catering provision. Resource includes PowerPoint presentation with starter and plenary activities. The slides cover trends in the hospitality an catering industry, and seasonality. There is an activity for pupils to design a menu (will require the internet to research seasonal ingredients and to look at an existing menu). There is also an information shet and questions based on social media influence.

This resource covers customer demographics and special dietary requirements. There is information summarising development and dietary requirements through the life stages. There is a past paper question with mark scheme (June 2019) on demographics. There is also an information sheet summarising special dietary needs, what people on specific special diets can and cannot eat, and a worksheet. I’ve also included two worksheets which have been downloaded from HWB, I take no credit for these and have not charged for these as they are freely available to anyone who knows where to look!

WJEC Hospitality and Catering; 1.2.2 Customer requirements The resource includes: A Powerpoint presentation looking at the different types of customer and their needs (business, leisure, local) and a worksheet based on this (slide 13 of the PowerPoint will need to be printed). Part 2 of the PowerPoint focuses on customer rights and equality, looking at relevant legislation. There are two case studies for pupils to complete, and an extension worksheet for more able pupils. The resource will take 2 lessons, and includes 2 starter and plenary activities.

WJEC Hospitality nd Catering; 1.2.1 Front of House Resource includes a PowerPoint presentation looking at factors to consider when planning the layout for front of house design of a restaurant or hotel. Pupils then design their own layout, and peer assess. Templates provided.

Unit 1: 1.1.1 Hospitality and catering providers The resource includes a PowerPoint presentation, with starter and plenary activities, a video and two worksheets (one of which is incorporated into the PowerPoint and will need to be printed). The resource covers residential service (specifically hotels): • rooms: single, double, king, family, suite (en-suite bath/shower room, shared facilities) • refreshments: breakfast, lunch, evening meal, 24-hour room service/restaurant available • conference and function facilities • leisure facilities (spa, gym, swimming pool). It will take between 1-2 lessons depending on the ability of pupils.

WJEC Health and Social Care Unit 2 Task 2: Health Promotion Support pack to prepare pupils to complete the task, includes: PowerPoint presentations with 90 slides in total covering the five sections of the work. Section A: What is health promotion? Government guidelines, health promotion topics, and choosing a target group. Section B: Positive and negative influences on the health and well being of the target group (separate Word Document Digital Helpdesk), Government guidelines and initiatives. Section C: The aims of health promotion campaigns, suitability, and availability to the target group. Section D: The advantages and disadvantages of different types of medium, credible sources, and gaining feedback. Section E: Resoures to help pupils evaluate their campaign. The presentation includes literacy support (Talk 4 Writing approach), examples, boxing up, sentence starters and connectives etc.) for each section of the work. Lastly, there is a template for pupils to complete the work.

WJEC GCSE Health and Social Care Unit 2 Task 1: Service Provision Support pack includes: PowerPoint presentation containing 80 slides which covers the teaching required for pupils to complete Task A. The care sectors (private statutory, voluntary) Types of care (healthcare, social care, child care) Multidisciplinary and multiagency working Regulation (Healthcare Inspectorate Wales, Care Inspectorate Wales, Estyn, plus relevant legislation). PowerPoint presentation to prepare pupils to complete Task C (Analysis of the Task), as well as a separate PowerPoint presentation looking at barriers to accessing care. Templates for Task A and Task C, literacy help and exemplars.

WJEC Level 1/2 Hospitality and Catering 1.1.4 Contributing factors to the success of hospitality and catering provision 2 whole lessons 2 x PowerPoint presentations with learning objectives, and starter and plenary activities. The presentations link to the worksheets. The first presentation covers costs that are incurred by businesses, the second covers the economy, profit and loss.

WJEC Level 1/2 Hospitality and Catering 1.1.4 Contributing factors to the success of hospitality and catering provision The environmental impact Set of 3 lessons Lesson 1: Slides 1 to 9 focusing on reduce, reuse, recycle (reuse, repair, rethink), including learning objectives, starter and plenary activities, and various activities. Lesson 2: Slides 10 to 12 including starter and plenary, and a research task. Pupils will require the internet to complete the task. Lesson 3: Pupils cook their chosen dish based on their research from lesson 2.

Level 1/2 WJEC Hospitality and Catering The impact of the media Whole lesson PowerPoint presentation including starter and plenary activities, and a research task. Pupils will require computers and access to the internet in order to complete the research task. A PowerPoint template is provided. There is also a past paper question with mark scheme (this is taken from a previous WJEC Hospitality and Catering paper).

WJEC Hospitality and Catering 1.1.4 Contributing factors to the success of hospitality and catering provision The impact of the media Whole lesson Resource includes a PowerPoint presentation with learning objectives, starter activity and plenary, as well as an information sheet with questions. I teach a mixed ability group. Some of the more able pupils were able to read through the text on their own, however, I found it worked better using the reciprocal reading cards, and pupils working in groups helped all pupils to understand the text better.

A set of resources to support the teaching and completion of the Unit 2: Service Provision task. Includes: Task introduction PowerPoint which explains the requirements of each aspect of the task and the assessment criteria. PowerPoint to teach the theory, has questions on relevant slides for pupils to answer (I get them to do this in their books).
