Media Class English- Adventure Time Lesson 8
This resource can be used for ESL or mainstream English Language learners. Students watch a short clip of the popular show ‘Adventure Time’ and then answer the set of comprehension, multiple choice or dictation tasks that are provided on the worksheet.
This resource has really helped me to improve my students overall command of English vernacular and idiomatic phrases. It also provides many extended response opportunities both oral and written.
Finally, I use these tasks to also have open discussions about the problems and solutions the characters face, many of which are also problems applicable to the students watching the episode. :)

'Sweet Smell of Success' novel study- Ernest Lehman
This resource covers all five chapters and has questions that can be used in class discussions.There is also a character listing and description, as well as some relevant theme listing. As a text, it is excellent for critical thinking and debate as it deals with popular media, greed and the search for success at any cost. This novel study is based on the novelette by Ernest Lehman, it is the edition currently on Amazon (The Overlook Press, 2000 ed.).
The novel is about J.J Hunsecker a ruthless columnist for ‘The Globe’ Newspaper, he has a sister, Susan, who he treats as his possession.
Sidney Falco, a press agent who wants to attain the prestige of Hunsecker agrees to falsely accuse Steve Dallas- Susan Hunsecker’s fiance and have him beaten up by rogue cop, Harry Kello. The implications of Sidney’s actions come back to haunt him once Susan Hunsecker plans revenge.

Information texts: newspaper reports- lesson 2
This resource shows students how to write and identify newspaper reports as informational texts. It includes a newspaper sample and some practice questions. It also has a grammar focus on proper nouns.
It is an extension of lesson 1, also found in my shop.

**All about Newspaper Reports! **
In this engaging and interactive lesson, primary-level students are able to discover:
What constitutes an informative text and it’s narrative purpose.
How they are written, in particular, the elements that make up an effective and exciting newspaper report.
Important writing conventions that students can use to draft and write their own reports.
Students have three main activities in this lesson. They can first identify headlines in activity 1 before moving onto activity 2, where they will have to select information from a news article and label it according to the 5 elements of a report.
The last task asks students to select their own article and decode the elements independently or in pairs.

The Attacks on France: Creating Social Awareness
This resource is a set of worksheets that deal with the Paris Bombings on November 13th 2015 by terrorist groups. It is designed to create an open discussion among students for important social and cultural awareness development. There are 4 activities in total with one possible expansion topic dealing with research on the nature of terrorism.
Critical Thinking Task: Refugees-Allow or Refuse Entrance?
The task focuses on the long-debated question- whether refugees deserve to seek refuge in safer countries or whether they should not be allowed entry to first world countries.The lesson includes 2 clip sets that can be shown in class, a series of questions allowing for critical thinking and a short-essay section in which students argue for or against this topic
Character Analysis of the Novel : 'The Help'
This resource explains each of the characters from the 2009 novel: 'The Help'. It explains the context and background of each character as well as the historical background of the time, such as: the Jim Crow laws and segregation.
'Anne Frank: Diary of a Young Girl'/The Holocaust (Workbook and Homework Units)
The purpose of this resource is to not only explain the historical context of the Holocaust, but also show the social significance it had on a personal level for the Jewish nation. The source uses the context of 'Anne Frank: Diary of a Young Girl' to explain this in depth.

Fantastic Fantasy-Study guide and Workbook
This resource is used in conjunction with 'The Never-ending Story III' slideshow on Fantasy novels. It talks about important and reoccurring themes in the Fantasy genre such as: heroism, loyalty, quests, motifs, magic,good vs. evil and reality vs. fiction. I had previously used this with my Year 8 class and it seemed to work well for our unit. We based this section on an assessment as well-which produced good scores.
Fantastic Fantasy! Exploring themes in The Neverending Story III
This resource shows themes in classic Fantasy movies and stories. It speaks about three very common tropes in the genre, that being: Courage, Loyalty among friends and Survival skills. My classes loved the movie and the Presentations on the genre itself, I found this to be very useful in refreshing their memories of characters and what Fantasy writing/movies entail.
