This is a lesson that was taught to year 7 and has KS3 levels 4-6. The learning objectives slide promotes AFL and regular checking of progress in lesson - see my other resources for an explanation. This is a graded task on the heart and circulatory system in format of a level assessed task used at KS3. There are graded keywords for students to use as well as clear graded objectives taken from the OCR Gateway B3 biology specification (current for 2013/14). These are a series of dingbats that I have created as engaging starter activities. They work really well as a short punchy starter that students answer on whiteboards before the 4 minute song finishes that students hear as they walk in (e.g. Bon Jovi, Olly Murs). The words are keywords that are referred back to in lesson. There are dingbats for KS3, KS4 and KS5 on these topics: photosynthesis, respiration, compounds, hydrocarbons and carbonyls (A level). Students could post it note their answers with their names and stick them on the whiteboard next to the image. Please leave feedback.

This is a detailed comprehension task that will push able students. The text on the discovery of insulin was taken from the Nobel Prize website. A brief glossary is provided. There are 4 levelled questions (Level 7 = A*).

This may be used in conjunction with my other resource on global warming. Pupils here are given 2 different theories and evaluate the evidence for and against.

This is a levelled checklist for graph skills that year 7 and 8 students should be able to do. I use this the second time that I teach year 7 graph skills. It helps promote inclusion. This is a resource that I created for my year 10 students to think critique their performance on each question of an end of topic test. This can be easily adapted to all types of test for KS4 and KS5 A level. The page setup is A4 so page 2 of the presentation can be printed and stuck into student books. This is a fun yet challenging GCSE Biology tarsia for revision of photosynthesis. This can also be used as an assessment for learning tool at the end of the lesson. There are 16 triangles with 18 pairs of questions and answers that make an equilateral triangle. I suggest that the A4 tarsia is printed on card and then the outline is cut out. Students can then quickly cut out the individual triangles. Included are the following topics: organs of a plant, minerals, formulae of chemicals in the photosynthesis symbol equation, limiting factors and chlorophyll. The 'fjsw' file can be opened and modified with tarsia software. The software is free to download but there is not currently a version for Mac computers.
