WAGOLL Newspaper
This is a WAGOLL newspaper article, written using the beginning of the story of Kensuke's Kingdom (by Michael Murpurgo), but could be used as an example for any newspaper writing unit.
Possible uses:
- to annotate features of a newspaper
- as a model for writing own newspaper articles
- to critique - what is good and not-so-good about this article?
P.s. The family is not called 'Finnegan' in Kensuke's Kingdom - we are not told their surname so I made one up!

Rounding to 10/100/1000 Card Game
This game allows children to practice rounding to 10/100/1000. Give each pair a sheet of cards, cut up. They should make two separate piles; one of the smaller cards and one of the larger cards. For each turn, the player turns over one small card and one large card, and completes the task, e.g.
Small card = 637
Large card = Round to the nearest 10
Answer = 640.
Replace the cards to the bottom of the piles and repeat with the other player.

Challenge Box Labels
In my classroom I have 'Challenge Boxes&', small plastic boxes which I place on the tables during lessons with an extension or challenge task in them. I made these labels to decorate the boxes - colour co-ordinated to our table groups (blue/red/orange/green/purple)
100 Book Challenge Display
Display cards for a '100 Book Challenge' - where children race to be the first to have read 100 books! Each level could have a prize (for example, a bookmark/pencil/magazine/book token etc.) The books are for the names of the children in the class; I printed them on coloured card and then wrote on them.
Traffic Light Marking Checklist
When marking books, I note down all the children into the appropriate columns:
Green: if they clearly understood the lesson content
Amber: if they mostly understood the lesson, perhaps with a few errors
Red: if they struggled with the content
This allows for quick intervention the following day for any children who fall into the 'red&' category.
