I attach two texts, two for the students to identify what makes a good piece of writing in French and one easier text for a trap door game ’ which can be teacher led ( teacher reads the text twice, students listen, memorize with pens down and then rewrite the text from memory and then translate . With the longer texts you may help students identify the good practice with the help of the mark scheme, I also tend to organize games ( in two, one with a pencil, one with a pen, teacher calls out a sentence, first pupil to circle the sentence, dominant colour on the sheet wins )

I have designed this to support my year 7 in developing reading/ writing / translating skills. I started with the text ( pair work competition : each pupil has a different colour pen, the first to circle the translation in French in the text wins the point and it is quite visual at the end who is fastest . Great fro competition The other activities involve finding translations, matching up for lower ability and extending sentences from the given text. The last slide on the Power Point contains a writing list of bullet points ( goes with Studio 1 ’ il est hypercool’ but can be adapted for other courses. I owe Rachel Hawkes a big thank you for inspiring the Power Point slides offering differentiation when sentence building on mini whiteboards. I hope it is useful.

Easy and simple to use. Consolidate use of perfect tense.

On this presentation, you will find ideas to help your students move on from using single words to building sentences. You can adapt the slides to suit. There are ideas to help identifying differences with j'ai/ j'aime and more in sentences to support listening. You can use Slides 1 and 2 to train your students to pronounnce cognates accurately, then develop and set sentence challenges with mini whiteboards or in pairs. Simple, but effective, tried and tested in both primary and secondary activities.

Extended reading passage to support students identifying and using the construction with Il faut + infinitive. Translations activities and extensions provided to get familiar with IL FAUT in other tenses. The error correcting activities proved useful too.

Can be used to develop confidence in reading and writing extended passages but can be used to support speaking , especially asking questions using the 'du' subject with 'st' ending. I normally aim at having all students to have memorised the main basic questions in German using correct pronunciation and verb endings very early on and this presentation has worked really well so far with my German beginners (Y7 ).

I have made up a full text and attached various activities to keep you and students going. I have also added teachers' notes for ideas of how to exploit the text.

Quite humorous vocabulary but not rude and will certainly will keep you class engaged and teach them much relevant vocabulary on the topic of protecting the planet. This is designed for an introduction to this tense with my year 8. We have used it before but we now need to understand how it works so students become independent in building and using this tense themselves. Any comments are welcome. The vowel gap fill activity can be used for pair work, for speaking and or writing. Students have to fill in the gaps ( stars ) with vowels only and then they could use the grid as support in speaking tasks. I hope this is useful to colleagues, I am sharing as it has been tried and tested many times .

Visit the French website 1 jour 1 actu. play the clip ( in Informations animees ), it is the clip from Monday 30/11. the use the activities attached as you wish. The stater sheet will help students familiarise themselves with the script but you may wish to use it as a plenary rather than as a starter, this will depend on your groups ( A Level should cope with it as a starter ). Then complete all activities or even use the script with the first listening, then remove it gradually. offer the vocabulary search once students are more confident , it can be done with or without the script. I have put first letters of each words needed in French for guidance.

The ideas for consolidation are on the very last slide. They contain tips on activities I have tried with all ages and ranges of abilities and some have a competitive elements. The first slides explain the pitfalls of the word order and try to pre-empt errors such as word order, questions that should not be asked and issues of little words that often get forgotten about as students become concerned with handling more complex language.

It goes quite fast, hence all the resources attached to support students through the study of authentic resources and texts, particularly for the new GCSE MFL and A Level ( 2016 ). This is a resource that I created to support my year 10 through the use of DOP. They are used to ' dodgy English' and I am sharing this as they enjoyed the activities and gave me good feedback ( it has helped them massively and they are now confident with those ), especially the translation which they used a learning and consolidating activity. I have in my free resources a Power Point you can also access to teach the initial stages and the words for the needed DOPS for these activities.

I have highlighted idioms in red and added subjunctives. A very simple worksheet that I have used to practise, memorise and learn to use French idioms at all levels, but much appreciated at KS4 and KS5.

I have used this for INSETS and CPDs for both PGCE students in MFL and also at whole school levels. The examples provided are MFL specific but can of course be amended for all subjects and purposes.

To help new teachers , PGCE, NQT in developing ideas for marking and giving feedback

I presented this to a PGCE MFL cohort and have used this over the past two academic years. Evaluations form students have come out very positive ( backed up with real life examples of marking and back up by practice marking activities and debates ) so thought I'd share for those delivering similar sessions or INSETS. Take a look and adapt to your own audience.

This will be the first part of the lessons on the endings for the present form for regular and irregular verbs in French. This contains a power point to be used as a guide and lesson plan, a starter sheet : students can use it and fill it in either looking at the clues at the back or they may choose to ignore the clues. There are opportunities for assessment highlighted on the power point, using mini whiteboards and I have also highlighted opportunities for questioning on some slides. The text the students will use to re write using the they form is from a textbook ( Studio ) so I have not used it but it can be created. The attached text called mes copains will support students for a class reading activities and there are two grids on the power point to help questioning. I have now updated this mini pack by adding the full lesson plan with differentiation highlighted on it if you wanted to use it or integrate in your own SOLS.
