Lesson 1- Introduce the book, talk about what it could be about. Complete comprehension worksheets. Print and cut out large crayon and stick onto a lollipop stick. Use as a role play activity where children pretend to be a crayon and their partner has to guess which. Lesson 2- Create a character profile on a chosen crayon using adjectives and some information on the crayon. There is a tailored adjective word mat to assist this. Lesson 3- Discuss features of informal letters. Complete an informal letter planning sheet. Lesson 4- Recap features of informal letters. Write up informal letter to Duncan pretending to be one of the crayons using the letter template.

This resource contains a presentation on how to write instructions and what they are used for. It breaks down which parts of instructions are important and why, as well as giving instructions for the children’s tasks afterwards. It also contains a worksheet where the children need to colour code and underline the features from written instructions. Lastly, there is an extension word search containing these features for the children to find.

It has interactive games which can be played to fill in the blanks as well as some tasks. Lastly, it contains two worksheets. One is simply filling in the blanks to finish the expanded noun phrases in a sentence. The extension worksheet involves rewriting the text to make it more interesting use expanded nouns phrases. There is an additional expanded noun phrase word mat to aid this lesson.
