New Zealand Sight Words – Magenta and Red - Trace Write Cut Paste

(0)
This activity is for words at the Magenta and Red level. A total of 53 activity sheets. Students trace the focus word, have a go at writing it, and then cut the letter tiles and paste them into the empty boxes. There are additional letter tiles for the Red words. Students will need to sort out which letters they need to keep to make the word. The Magenta words only have the letter tiles that are needed. A great activity for working on fine motor skills. Students also get to practice writing their name on every activity sheet. Words are written with the NZ Basic Script font. Lines are 14mm high with a 7mm dashed line. Made on A4 size paper (landscape orientation). Two of the same worksheets per page (the worksheets are A5 size). High frequency words align to the NZ reading colour wheel: ♦ magenta (25 words) ♦ red (28 words) These activity sheets are also available for other reading levels: * Yellow and Blue * Green and Orange Words Used: Magenta: I like going is mum look the am said to at went in me here my on dad a and come up can sat for Red: we get put with go no they today was where you she he this are will as too not but likes down big it little see so looked ********************************************************************** © Suzanne Welch Teaching Resources

Multiplication Game - 4 in a row (alien theme)

(0)
A fun multiplication game that reinforces knowledge of the 1x1 to 9x9 facts. Included: ♦ 4 game boards (numbers are arranged differently on each board) ♦ Instructions ♦ Multiplication grid (to support lower ability students) Provided in colour and black/white. How to Play: Player A starts by placing a marker under (or on) two of the alien numbers at the bottom of the game board. Player A multiplies these two numbers together and covers that answer on the board with one of their counters. Player B moves one of the markers to a new number. Player B multiplies these two numbers together and covers that answer on the board with one of their counters. Play continues in this way, with players taking alternate turns and moving only one of the markers each time. If a player moves a marker to make a multiplication question where the answer is already covered, they lose their turn. The winner is the player who makes a row of 4 with their counters. The row may be horizontal, diagonal or vertical. Number of players: 2 Equipment: counters and markers (The markers are used to show which two 'alien' numbers are being multiplied together. You could use counters, paper clips, little sticks, etc.) ********************************************************************** © Suzanne Welch Teaching Resources

New Zealand Essential Spelling Words - 'Roll, Read, Write' activity

(0)
NZ Essential Spelling Words from Lists 1-8 An fun activity to practise spelling words. How it works: This activity can be done independently or in a group with others. Each person has one sheet of paper with words from the spelling list they are currently working on. Students take turns to roll the dice, read the word that matches the dice number, and write the word in the column underneath. There are 9 spaces under each word. Students can either: Roll - read - write Or Roll - read - cover - write A blank template is also included, enabling you to customise the spelling words for your students. The font used is ‘NZ Basic Script’. The letter shapes are the same as those recommended in the NZ Ministry of Education Handbook – ‘Teaching Handwriting’. This enables your students to work on their spelling and handwriting at the same time! An option would be to laminate the page(s) and make it a ‘write and wipe’ activity. The list number is written in the top right corner of each page. Made on A4 paper. (List 8 = commonly misspelt words). ********************************************************************** © Suzanne Welch Teaching Resources

Dolch Words – Fun Activity - Hot Laps Racing Track

(0)
An engaging sight word activity …. particularly for your boys. Build a racing track and drive a toy car along it, reading the sight words as you go. This resource contains all 220 Dolch words. They are grouped in the following categories: ♦ Pre-primer ♦ Primer ♦ First Grade ♦ Second Grade ♦ Third Grade Provided in the following formats: ♦ Letter size paper ♦ A4 size paper The Dolch words are written on a piece of ‘racing track’. Print them off, laminate, and cut. Use as many pieces as you wish and combine them with the corners, starting grid and finishing line. Your students can design their very own racing track! You can use this resource to make up all sorts of games and activities. For example … * Make a racing track that is in the form of a loop. Roll a dice and travel that many spaces along the race track, reading the sight words as you go. Every time you pass the finishing line (chequered squares or flags) you score one point. Who can score 10 points first? * As above, but when you land on a word you count how many letters it has. You say the word out loud that many times. For example, if you land on the word ‘little’ you say it 6 times. * The teacher (or a buddy) says a word. Drive your car to that word. * The teacher (or a buddy) gives a clue to a word. Drive your car to that word. For example, drive your car to a word that starts with b and ends with k. Or, drive your car to a 3 letter word that rhymes with ‘man’. A different racing track layout can be built each time. Great for your creative learners! Included: ♦ Track pieces with one Dolch word written on each. ♦ Blank track pieces (to add additional words if necessary). ♦ Corners, starting grid and finish line. ♦ Teacher notes and a word list. Ink friendly - all in black/grey/white. The font used is ‘NZ Basic Script’. This is a great font for students learning to read. Each word is written on a faint grey line. You will need to provide the toy cars. This resource is very versatile. Print more than one copy to make more track pieces, combine more than one set, etc. 4 track pieces (4 words) on each page. This resource is also available for NZ Sight Words (available in my TES store). © Suzanne Welch Teaching Resources
