This is a 3 week unit aimed at the beginning of Year 1 and is designed to start the year off with some simple sentence writing. Linked to Jane Considine’s The Write Stuff.
Based on Nick Butterworth’s story Jasper’s Beanstalk
This unit links beautifully with a growing topic, particularly planting and caring for seeds.
Other linked topics are patience, persistence and responsibility (PSHCE).

This unit is designed to aid Year 1 children in the writing of a biographical text about Antonio Pasin - the inventor of the Radio Flyer.
This unit is linked to the Emmy-Award winning short film Taking Flight based on Antonio Pasin.
This unit covers:
Introduction to Questions and Question words
Adding er to the end of a verb to make a noun

Exploring different vocabulary
Inspired by Jane Considine’s approach ‘The Write Stuff’.
Taking Flight is an Emmy Award winning short film based on Antonio Pasin, the inventor of the famous red wagon, the Radio Flyer.
This narrative unit is based on the short film. It follows a chunked approach, and is inspired by Jane Considine’s The Write Stuff.
A detailed plan for each day is included within the slides and tasks are provided for each lesson.
Some lessons focus on sentence work and some work on grammar or vocabulary.
Skills and Knowledge focused on:
Adding ed to verbs and introduce to irregular verbs
Introducing ‘er’ as a suffix
Using ‘and’ to connect two clauses
