Young children often have trouble with giving up their favorite toys such as an iPad or tablet. This story was written to help children understand why they need to cooperate with giving up electronics and what they could do instead. This story will be particularly useful for children with autism, ADHD, or other developmental disorders. I use simple visuals to help explain these ideas to children in the form of a story. The last part of the story tells children what they can do when they’re not allowed to use the iPad. This includes taking a deep breath, asking to play later, and doing other fun things.
In this download, there are three major components:
A 9 page PowerPoint social story that explains why children should not get angry/sad when giving up an iPad and what they could do instead. Each page contains simple images to go along with the story. The great thing about this Powerpoint is that it is FULLY EDITABLE. This means that you can change the text, erase/add images, and make other modifications to suit your individual children. So you can change iPad to Kindle or Tablet, or whatever else the child is using. Please just do not distribute or sell the modified versions.
An 9 page PDF file that is READY TO PRINT and use with your students. Each page will be approximately 4" x 6". You can then staple, laminate the pages, or even bind them together to make a Social Story Book.
A 1 page DOC file that is fully editable. You can use this file if you prefer a 1 page format to a book. It’s easy to laminate and keep near your student’s desk!
Overall, this package has everything you need to teach children what they can do when they need to give up the iPad! I think the simple language is perfect for children as young as preschool age.
Social Story Narrative- Preschool and Older - Autism/Special Ed
Studies have shown that social stories can help teach children social-emotional skills in challenging situations. One common behavioral issue seen in children with special needs such as autism is to bite when feeling angry or frustrated. Children with this behavior often do not understand why it is a problem or what they can do instead of biting. As a result, this story is written to help them identify why they are biting others and why it is a problem. I use simple visuals to help explain these ideas to children in the form of a story. The last part of the story tells children what sort of strategies they can use to calm themselves down instead of biting (e.g., taking deep breaths, using a sensory chew toy, or squeezing their fists).
In this download, there are three major components:
An 6 page PowerPoint social story that explains why children should not bite others and what they could do instead. Each page contains simple images to go along with the story. The great thing about this Powerpoint is that it is FULLY EDITABLE. This means that you can change the text, erase/add images, and make other modifications to suit your individual children. Please just do not distribute or sell the modified versions.
A 6 page PDF file that is READY TO PRINT and use with your students. Each page will be approximately 4" x 6". You can then staple the pages together to form a little Social Story Book.
A 1 page DOC file that is fully editable. You can use this file if you prefer a 1 page format to a book. It’s easy to laminate and keep near your student’s desk!
Overall, this package has everything you need to teach children why they should not be biting other children! I think the simple language is perfect for children as young as preschool age.

Good flash cards help to make ABA and speech therapy so much easier! This collection of 150 high-quality flash cards covers 50 common early words for children with language delays. Each noun has three pictures: two that are illustrated and one live photo on a plain white background. Having three pictures ensures that children learn a variety of examples of each noun. This prevents students from learning too “narrowly”. For example, if you always teach with red apples, the student may not be able to identify a green apple.
Here are just some of the skills you can teach using these cards:
Receptive Identification (“Touch Apple”)
Expressive Identification (“What’s this?”)
Feature Function Class Identification (“Touch the one that’s red; Show me the one you eat; Which one is a vehicle?”)
Non-identical matching
Sorting by category (15 food items, 15 household items, 10 animals, 5 toys, 5 clothing items)
They are PERFECT to use in ABA or discrete trial instruction for kids with autism. They are sized to be small enough (2.5" by 2.5") so that you can place as many as 10 or 12 on a desk in front of a student for a big array. I provide the pictures in two formats: 3 printable PDF files with 6 pages each of 2.5" x 2.5" flash cards and individual JPG files. If you prefer, you can also easily make larger flash cards with these pictures.
As a BCBA, I selected these words to reflect some of the earliest words that children with autism and other language delays should learn. They are selected based on their functional value so that children can quickly learn to request their desired reinforcers quickly (e.g., chips, cookie, car, blocks.). In sum, there are items included from five categories: animals, clothes, food, household, and toys. I also include a free data sheet to take data on the child’s progress learning these words.

Studies have shown that social stories can help teach children social-emotional skills in challenging situations. One common behavioral issue seen in children with special needs is to drop to the floor when feeling angry, frustrated, or tired. Children with this behavior often do not understand why it is a problem or what they can do instead of dropping to the floor. As a result, this story is written to help them identify why they might be flopping and why it is not an effective behavior. I use simple visuals to help explain these ideas to children in the form of a story. The last part of the story tells children what they can do instead of flopping. These include asking for help, taking a break, or asking to do something else.
In this download, there are three components:

Task analysis is a strategy in ABA where a complex skill such as putting on a shirt is broken down into simple component steps (e.g., take shirt out of drawer, hold with both hands, slide over head, put one arm through, etc.).
This FREE and user-friendly task analysis data sheet will allow you to take data on at least two trials of a task with 15 steps or fewer. There is also room to mark down the prompt level required.
What I love most about this resource is that you can fill out all the steps on the computer in the fillable PDF and then print it out for easy data collection. Create your own task analysis in a breeze!
Lastly, we include instructions so that you and classroom staff know exactly how to fill out the sheet!
Motivation is often a challenge when instructing students with autism or other special needs. As a result, it is critical that you conduct preference or “motivator” assessments frequently with your students. There are three formal procedures to do this in ABA: single stimulus, paired choice, and multiple stimulus preference assessments. This download will give you data sheets and instructions to use with all three of these assessments. Instructions are included right on the sheet!
