On the Basis of Sex Movie Guide | Questions | Worksheet (PG - 2018) challenges students to analyze the amazing story of Ruth Bader Ginsburg and her fight against gender discrimination. Explore her strategy for winning the Charles E. Moritz v. Commissioner of Internal Revenue (1972) and how it was used to topple the system of sex discrimination under the law. Ask student to think critically about the relationships between Ruth and Martin (her husband), and Jane (her daughter), in an effort to learn from how they supported each other.

This Liberty’s Kids - The Boston Tea Party (E01) - Movie Guide | Worksheet encourages students to take the time to stop, think and digest all the historical concepts packed into these fun, concise cartoon episodes. Challenge students to develop their EQ and life skills by asking them to analyze decisions that characters make, predict their outcomes and also imagining what they would have done if they were in their shoes.
Note: The time stamps on this movie guide match up with the DVD version of these episodes, however if you have a different version of the film short descriptions of where to stop the film for each question are included.
The entire season 1 (40 episodes) can currently be found on YouTube. For example on the LibertysKidsTV channel, however, this is not my channel and this link may or may not be available in the future.

This FREE! America: The Story of the US - Rebels E01 - Movie Guide | (TVPG - 2010) challenges students to compare early settlers’ expectations to reality once they reached America. Asks students to think like a director and also analyze Paul Revere’s poem The Bloody Massacre. Reflect on how the episode portrays America’s identity and to what extent it holds true today. Finally, discuss and debate the key factors, as presented in the documentary, that led to the colonies early success.

Lewis and Clark: Great Journey West | National Geographic Documentary (TV - 2002) challenges students to compare the expedition to a modern day expedition, empathize with indigenous tribes, and describe Sacagawea’s contributions to the journey. Ask students to put themselves in the shoes of the members of the expedition, make decisions and support them with evidence from the movie and their own perspectives. Finally, ask students to research and explore how the journey from St. Louis to Astoria has changed or write a research essay on one of the tribes that the expedition encountered.
Note: This movie guide includes an optional Pre-Viewing Student handout detailing Lewis & Clark State-Specific Information (ID, MT, WA, OR)

This Thirteen Days Movie Guide | Cuban Missile Crisis | JFK | Cold War (PG13 - 2000) challenges students analyze the portrayal of JFK’s team, their differing perspectives, and their efforts to avoid conflict. Investigate the significance of Adlai’s role as the UN spokesperson and the implications of believing Fomin as a representative of Khrushchev. Examine the potential consequences of trading missiles in Turkey for missiles in Cuba and the importance of the timeline for missile removal. Think like a director and discuss what effect the black and white scenes have on the viewer. Finally, research contemporary events with differing opinions on military force and diplomatic solutions and compare them to the Cuban Missile Crisis.
