A brief PowerPoint presentation to introduce Aboriginal art. The presentation touches on origin, style and purpose along with mentioning how colours, patterns and symbols are used in Aboriginal art. Suitable for KS1 and KS2 but, it could be used with any age group where a simple introduction to Aboriginal art is required.

Day of the Dead is a two day Mexican celebration where the dead are honored and remembered. It is a time of joy and happiness, skulls are an important feature of the celebration and are seen everywhere. This resource includes five skulls that can be coloured and decorated. The designs are of varying difficulty levels and include a blank one for those that want to completely design their own skull. I have successfully used these templates with years 3,4,5 and 6 to create masks and bunting but they could also be used by both younger and older children. The Great Wave off Kanagawa is a woodblock print by Japanese ukiyo-e artist Hokusai. It is one of the most famous pieces of Japanese art. This resource will enable children to look closely at the artwork, consider the details and notice the colours before honing their colouring in skills. The aim of this activity is for children to create a poem using one of Picasso’s paintings as inspiration. This activity does not ‘teach’ poetry rather it provides an opportunity to use an art source to inspire creative writing. His designs are still very popular today and can be found on cups, clothing, notebooks and many other items. This is a fun art activity that introduces children to Impressionism and French artist Renoir. Children will first learn a bit about the artist and the art movement he was a founding member of before creating their own floral masterpieces.
