BLACK HISTORY MONTH SHORT UNIT OF WORK FOR KEY STAGES 2 OR 3
This bundle contains 4 lessons created to celebrate Black History Month. One a week during the month of October to trace the progress of African Americans from slavery to President of the United states. They are chronological and each shows a significant development:

L3 Civil Rights
L4 The Most Powerful Man in the World
They are fully resourced with varied activities and video clips, and are suitable for either KS2 or KS3 students.

BLACK HISTORY MONTH RESOURCE MATERIALS
This bundle contains resources to support the celebration of Black History month.
It contains:
A large wall display celebrating the achievements of 20 famous black celebrities
A quiz/wordsearch for a tutorial activity
4 lessons (one for each week in October which are a chronological breadth study from slavery to the President of the USA.
Also included is an assembly which demonstrates the progress made since Civil Rights and highlights the celebration of black culture in October.
BLACK HISTORY MONTH LESSON 1 THE SLAVE TRADE
This lesson is the first in a short unit of work prepared for key stages 2 and 3 to celebrate Black History Month. The lesson introduces students to the slave trade, and contains numerous tasks including the chronology of the triangular trade and making inferences from sources. The purpose of the lesson is to contextualise why we celebrate Black History every October.
This lesson is fully resourced and suitable for either key stage 3 or key stage 2 students.
CREATE A NEW COUNTRY - FUN TUTORIAL OR GEOGRAPHY GROUP ACTIVITY
This group activity covers 5 tutorials or geography lessons for either KS1 or KS2 pupils, and enables them to build group work skills by focussing on a project where they have to create their own country. Each lesson they have to create another aspect of the country:
Creating an identity - name; flag; currency
Politics and government
The national dish
Holidays - climate; weather; physical features etc
Presentations and prizes.
Fun activity to learn new geographical skills or tutorial team building
Black History Month L4 The most powerful people in the world key stages 2 and 3
This lesson is the last one in a short unit of work prepared for key stages 2 and 3 to celebrate Black History Month. The lesson asks students to evaluate the reasons why in less than 150 years, African Americans progressed from being held captive as slaves to an African American man becoming president of the USA - how did this happen? The purpose of the lesson is to contextualise why we celebrate Black History every October.
This lesson is fully resourced and suitable for either key stage 3 or key stage 2 students.

This lesson is the third in a short unit of work prepared for key stages 2 and 3 to celebrate Black History Month. The lesson introduces students to the concept of civil rights and key individuals such as Martin Luther King; Malcolm X and Rosa Parks. It contains various activities and video clips. The purpose of the lesson is to contextualise why we celebrate Black History every October.

Black History Month key stage 2 and 3 unit of work lesson 2 The abolition of slavery
This lesson is the second in a short unit of work prepared for key stages 2 and 3 to celebrate Black History Month. The lesson focuses on the abolition of slavery and requires students to think about the key people and key reasons why slavery was abolished. The purpose of the lesson is to contextualise why we celebrate Black History every October.

A LEVEL US GOVERNMENT AND POLITICS LESSON 7. BIPARTISANSHIP AND FEDERALISM
This is the SEVENTH lesson on the constitution in the A Level scheme of work US government and politics, and continues the study of the key features of the US constitution with a focus on bipartisanship AND FEDERALISM. It also introduces students to a 30 mark essay for the first time.
The power point aims at recapping on previous knowledge and introducing an understanding of the importance of bipartisanship for effective government. The lesson contains discussion and two detailed tasks. It is planned as a one hour lesson, but will probably take 2 hours to complete all of the activities and readings including the essay.
You will need the Pearson EDEXCEL A level text book to support this lesson

A LEVEL THE COMPLETE SECTION ON HENRY VIII AND THE MID TUDORS
This bundle contains all of the power points and resources needed to teach A level units on Henry VIII and the mid Tudors. They are fully resourced and contain activities to stretch and challenge students doing A Level History units on the Tudors.
The whole of this bundle would probably take approximately two academic terms to deliver.
It also contains detailed A Level revision notes on Henry VIII.
A LEVEL US GOVERNMENT AND POLITICS LESSON 6 SEPARATION OF POWERS, AND CHECKS AND BALANCES
This is the SIXTH lesson on the constitution in the A Level scheme of work US government and politics, and the first lesson which considers the key features of the US constitution.
The power point aims at recapping on previous knowledge and introducing an understanding of the separation of powers, and checks and balances aspect of the US Constitution. The lesson contains discussion and two detailed tasks. It is planned as a one hour lesson, but will probably take 2 hours to complete all of the activities and readings.

This wall display for black history month wall display honours and highlights the achievements of twenty people who have contributed to black people under 4 categories:
Activists: Rosa Parks; Steve Biko; John Lewis; Harriet Tubman and Nelson Mandela
Artists: Sammy Davis Jr; Maya Angelou; Louis Armstrong; Akon and Whoopi Goldberg
Politicians: Barak Obama; Bernie Grant; Kamala Harris; Diane Abbot and David Lammy
Blak Sportspersons: Jackie Robinson; Venus and Serena Williams; Mo Farah; Marcus Rashford and Tiger Woods
You will require a relatively large display board - pictures can be printed on A4 instead of A3 if space is limited. Includes lettering and arrows for cutting out.
BLACK HISTORY MONTH WORD SEARCH AND QUIZ
This quiz/word search is a useful tutorial activity or starter/plenary for a history lesson to celebrate black history month. Students have to identify 15 key people who have contributed to black history from clues, and then they have to find their names in a word search.
It takes about 20-30 minutes to complete.

The Long and Short Term Causes of the First World War
This bundle contains one key stage 3 lesson which focuses on the long-term causes of the First World War, and one which focuses on the short-term causes (the spark).
The lessons take one hour each to teach, and the assessment method is peer assessment and sharing criterion.
KEY STAGE 3 THE SHORT TERM CAUSE OF THE FIRST WORLD WAR
This lesson is the 2nd in a series of two lessons investigating the causes of the First World War. The focus of this lesson is the short-term cause (the spark). It links the long-term causes to the shooting of the Archduke Franz Ferdinand, and is assessed through the use of sharing assessment criteria and peer assessment.
KEY STAGE 3 THE LONG TERM CAUSES OF THE FIRST WORLD WAR
This lesson focuses on evaluating causes and reaching a conclusion about an historical interpretation. The key focus is cause and consequence, and it gets the students to start thinking about the causes of the First World War and evaluating their relative importance.
Students have to identify information and fill in causation tables, and then complete an extended piece of writing evaluating an interpretation.

A Level US Government and Politics. The Nature of the US Constitution
This bundle contains the first 5 lessons on the US Constitution to cover the requirements for the A Level US Government and Politics specification. They include a background lesson on the creation of the Constitution (also suitable forA Level History) and 4 lessons investigating the nature of the US Constitution including structure; entrenchment; amendment etc. The block of lesson is completed with introducing students to a section A exam question which is modeled.
This is fully resourced, but access to Pearson Edexcel A Level US Government and Politics text book would be useful.
The lessons are based on a one hour lesson, but students will have to complete significant independent study to complete the set tasks.
A LEVEL US GOVERNMENT AND POLITICS LESSON 5. THE AMENDMENT PROCESS PART 2 AND EXAMINATION QUESTION
This lesson is the fifth lesson in the A Level Comparative Politics unit - it involves looking at the advantages and disadvantages of the amendment process to the US constitution, and the second part of the lesson introduces students to a section A examination question - modelling and sharing criterion with a focus on key terms, and contains activities and discussions to extend student thinking.
This lesson would take an hour to teach, however the task may need to be completed as home study. It is fully resourced but some of the activities require reference to the Pearson Edexcel A Level text book.
A LEVEL US GOVERNMENT AND POLITICS L4 THE AMENDMENT PROCESS
This lesson is the fourth lesson in the A Level Comparative Politics unit - it involves looking at the amendment process to the US constitution and evaluating why it is so difficult to change the original Constitution.
This lesson focuses on considering how amendment takes places and evaluating why the Constitution has been amended so infrequently with a focus on key terms, and contains activities and discussions to extend student thinking.
This lesson would take an hour to teach, however the task may need to be completed as home study. It is fully resourced but some of the activities require reference to the Pearson Edexcel A Level text book.
