The first part of this power point looks at the historiography of Henry VII’s consolidation of power through a class debate. It then goes on to consider A level essay writing. The last part starts looking at how Henry VII started to reduce the power of the nobles to help him further consolidate his power. There is also a resource which provides a useful diagram of Henry’s government structure. This contains the 3rd 5 lessons of the AQA A level unit 1C and should be taught in combination with the official AQA text book, but could also be used for another examination board.

These A Level lessons start with a debate opportunity following on from previous lessons (also available) on how well Henry VII consolidated his power after his victory at Bosworth. This enables students to consider different interpretations of history and provides assessment opportunities. They then look at the structure of Henry VII’s government and consider the key features of the personal government that he ran - this can be used to argue that he was the last Medieval King.
