This download is a great way for students to practice using interrogatives while socializing in large group. Students first answer 30 simple questions using a wide variety of interrogatives. Then they each receive one question and "work the party" to take turns asking and answering questions. Students switch questions every round and activity runs until most students have asked or answered most questions. Lesson is best suited as a review of interrogatives for Spanish II students or for Spanish I students at the end of the year where they have some working knowledge of simple sentences, and have been practicing with interrogatives for several days. This partner practice reviews big numbers with food items. Students take turns asking about prices of items in a supermarket. Works best with students in Spanish I who have been studying fruits, vegetables and other basic food items. Each partner has 8 items to inquire about and 8 items to record. Takes about fifteen minutes in class to complete and is a great review or a warm up before a quiz.

This study guide follows the documentary Plastic Paradise about the garbage patch in the Pacific Ocean. Activity includes questions in chronological order for the film, discussion questions for small or large groups and a list of things students could do at home or school to take steps to reducing our plastic consumption. The movie is excellent, and is well suited for middle or high school environmental science students. Lesson takes 2-3 days to run depending on how much dialogue you want to incorporate.

Just print them, cut them apart and distribute to your class on a Monday to have them conduct a survey of their classmates about what they did over the weekend. Most of the questions are chore based, but there are a few others. After students have "questioned" classmates walking around the room, number the board and request the tally totals. Which activities were most/least popular? Easy warm up for Monday, students like that they are only asking one question and hardly realize they have answered dozens. The film will most certainly provoke discussion with students and for many serve as the first time they actually see the kind of poverty that motivates immigrants to risk their lives to come here. Movie guide contains 17-18 questions in chronological order and a couple of personal opinion/reactions. Guide is in English and Spanish. Amazing film, it will bring you to tears, while still leaving you with a sense of pride and dignity that these humble people maintain intact despite horrific circumstances.

Another round of "better than you", this game keeps the whole class moving, engaged and receiving instant feedback on the concept of Preterite vs Imperfect. Put desks in pairs, number each station of paired desks. Students write the first station number on their paper and game begins. Students decide preterite/imperfect and race their partner, slamming pencil on desk when finished. Reveal the answer and have ALL students rotate desks. Winning student goes one station lower 6-->5, losing student goes one station higher 6-->7. Settle all ties and disputes, dual wrong answers with a round of ROCK PAPER SCISSORS and continue the game. I use this presentation with Spanish I when starting animals and students can create their own list of 25 animals that are of most interest to them. Photos are useful also to discuss physical descriptions of animals when reviewing adjectives, or GUSTAR with students preferences for certain animals.

This episode discusses the challenges of being a superheroe and is great preparation for the cultural comparision section of the Spanish Language AP test, where superheroes often come up. This lesson is best suited for AP Level V students or a Heritage Language learner class where students can comprehend Spanish for a sustained period of time and takes one class period to complete.

This is just a file of large words that you can cut apart and have your students put up around the school. Its fun and "gets the word out" to the other students and the administration that you are making people aware of school vocabulary in Spanish. Kids love to put them up. This lesson contains 82 guided reading questions in chronological order that accompany the book ONE CRAZY SUMMER by Rita Williams. One Crazy Summer is a delightful story written for middle school or early high school aged reader, that explores themes of Black identity in Oakland during the Civil Rights era. Students explore themes and reflect on quotes in addition to the questions and some "in your opinion" questions that help them to gain a deeper meaning of the text. Also included are some brainstorm topics for pre-search prior to reading with a video link and discussion questions for follow up. Book takes about two weeks to teach. This book would also work well in conjunction with a social studies unit on the Civil Rights movement at the middle school level. These open ended, closed ended, decoding and reflection questions accompany the book HOME OF THE BRAVE by Katherine Applegate. This book tells the story of Kek, a refugee from Dharfur who relocates to Minnesota. This beautiful book is written in free verse and is an easy read for anyone in middle or high school. The underlying themes are deep and strike personal connections with many students. The language is not difficult and would be excellent reading for an ELL class of students. Questions are in order by chapter and there is a list of additional resources at the end on Youtube so you can educate everyone on the complexities of the situation in Dharfur and cultivate an understanding of the loss the suffering these refugees bring with them to the US. This book is culturally sensitive and opens up a lot of great discussions, and while sad at times, has some great comical moments.

Students take turns teaching peers at the start of each class. They review, reflect, problem solve and define new terms while you take attendance, hand back papers and ready to begin presentation of new material. This activity places ownership for learning on the students and buys you the time you need at the start of each hour. I have been using this concept in Foreign Language classes for years successfully and recently adapted this idea to math class for one of my graduate courses. Download contains directions for how to execute Teacher of the Day and the two templates you need for terms and problem of the day. Works best for middle school math, basic algebra and geometry, but could be adapted for higher levels courses. This film (winner Cannes film 2012) is based on the true story of a marketing campaign to oust Pinochet from his Presidency rather than extending it for another 8 years. Against all odds, with little resources and a comically clever campaign the opposition triumphs and Chileans are finally free to choose a new leader. Gael Garcia Bernal does an excellent job in this serious, thrilling, but also lighthearted film. This film carries an R rating for language, but is otherwise appropriate for an upper level Spanish class. It works best after a lab day to do some presearch on the Pinochet dictatorship or after teaching about desparecidos so students can situate the importance of the plebiscite within the context of his reign. Movie guide has both a Spanish version and an English version so it could be shown in a Social Studies class as well.

This lesson feeds well off of a unit on poetry where students are already familiar with poetic terminology. It can be used as a performance assessment. I use it after reading Oda a los Tomates by Pablo Neruda and showing some youtube clips of the poem to get the feeling for personification and imagery. It could also be used after a thematic unit on food and works best with Level III or higher students who are already familiar with locating poetry mechanisms in poetry. Lesson includes brainstorming chart, rough draft, finished product and rubric templates. Free preview contains additional comments and suggestions for implementation. The finished product from students on this lesson was some of the best most creative work I have seen this year, and students really enjoyed delivering their poems in a "Spoken Word" format in class. You will want to allow some class time to create rough drafts and avoid GOOGLE translated assignments.

This game pits students in the room against each other with a different partner every round. Students compete to come up first with the right answer and then everyone rotates chairs after each round. Powerpoint comes with instructions for teachers and a slide of instructions for students, 7 slides of Preterite -AR verbs with CAR/GAR/ZAR Yo changers and reflexive verb examples and answers for a 28 round game. Kids bounce around the room until a winner returns to their seat winning. Great fun, no non participators and all you do is run the mouse and discuss the answers when necessary. Game takes about 30 minutes to play.
