This presentation is intended as a time filler or a warm up for an intermediate level English class. Either in pairs or with one student at the front with their back to the class, students have to explain what simple English phrase is on the board. It is a selection of multiple choice questions based on the book, with 4, 6 or 8 options to answer. Teachers notes on the presentation tell you, which page of the book is being referenced.

A 25 question multiple choice quiz to introduce ESL students to the idea that words have multiple meanings, and they change over time. This quiz focuses on words that had new meanings in the 1950s, and are still in use today. I did deliberately chose not to use too much dated slang, and for words like ‘bread’ the alternatives are also definitions for bread, but they are formal ones. Personally I use this as part of a class on the development and changes in the English language

It is a great way to have students practice questions, that they might well encounter in part one of an IELTS exam.
