WW2 History Planning - Year 5/6
<p>This resource includes full planning for six History lessons for UKS2, based around British Values during WW2. It also includes PowerPoint slides for all of the lessons, as well as resources for each lesson. Planning provides key vocabulary throughout KS1 up to UKS2, as well as national curriculum objectives for Years 5 and 6.</p>
<p>Summary of lessons and resources include:</p>
<p><strong>L1 - Introduction lesson</strong>. How was the war declared? Which countries were involved?<br />
Task - Annotate and locate the countries involved in the second world war, using atlases and the resource sheet.</p>
<p><strong>L2 - The Monarchy .</strong> Discuss who was ruling during the second world war, as well as the Prime Minister. Follow the slides to learn about what roles the royal family and Winston Churchill had during the war.<br />
Task - Children to use the information they have learnt from the slides, as well as on the resource sheet to create a fact file about the royal family.</p>
<p>**L3 - The Blitz (1). **Use the slides to discuss air raids, the black out and anderson/morrison shelters.<br />
Task - Use the planning page to design and build their own anderson shelters in groups. This will need to be completed in two lessons - a planning lesson and then a building lesson. Use den making equipment to build the anderson shelters outside.</p>
<p><strong>L4 - The Blitz (2).</strong> Recap of previous lesson/s.<br />
Task - Children to write a diary entry in this lesson, experiencing a night in an anderson shelter.</p>
<p><strong>L5 - Rationing.</strong> Explain that during the second world war, people had to use ration books to ration their clothes and food. Follow the slides to discuss in more detail - including ‘Dig for Victory’.<br />
Task - Children to use the resource sheet provided to list the typical foods that they would eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner and compare this to a child in WW2.</p>
<p><strong>L6 - Evacuees.</strong> Discuss that children were evacuated during the second word war. Read the book on the slides, about a child called Ava who was evacuated.<br />
Task - Children to write a letter home as the character from the story, who was evacuated.</p>
