UNBELIEVABLE VALUE! Mostly aimed at KS3 (UK age 11-14), many of these starter and activities and associated teaching points/discussion stimuli are also adaptable for upper primary and even for KS4/5 use too. Actually contains considerably more than 50 separate activities/starters, with many possible variations listed on most activities, and a Bonus section with additional seasonal starters etc.

Please note - there are no powerpoints for this resource - simply because there are 50+ creative, interactive activities which DO NOT NEED powerpoints. Many of the activities work well even if you are displaced from a specialist music room (eg during exam periods) and even if you have no specialist equipment available. I mention this because a 3* review below complained that there were no powerpoints - even though if they had looked through the resource they would have realised that none of these very practical activities need powerpoints, nor would they benefit from them! (It would be great if someone could review this resource after actually reading/using it) More than 50 of these sold in the last couple of years and no other negative comments. Many of the activities have been used successfully by myself as head of department and by other colleagues in several different secondary schools, even before this resource appeared on the TES website.

Some starters/activities are standalone ideas related to different music skills and topics, but several chapters contain a sequence of starters or activities which can be used in consecutive lessons to develop a particular area of skill or understanding. Most are very practical in nature, all have been tried and tested in lessons over the last 20 years, and all will relate to a number of commonly-taught topics in the Music National Curriculum.

Chapters include Pulse and Rhythm Activities, Timekeeper Activities, Drum Kit Activities (no drum kit required!), One2Eight Activities (uses whiteboard only), Score-reading Activities, Composition Activities, Orchestral Mime activities and Musical Instrument Activities, as well as a bonus section which includes seasonal activities. Most use no specialist equipment or only things found as standard in every music classroom.

Many of these are completely original activities - you will not find them published anywhere else - but they have proved very popular with students in a number of schools over the years! Please leave feedback when you have used them. Thank you.
