This is a 15-slide PowerPoint which covers the 2nd of 3 parts which make up Learning Aim A of Unit 1 (Exploring Business). This is A2 - Stakeholders and their Influence.

Teachers will be required to do no other work. These PowerPoints include questions and activities as well as videos and they have been written by a BTEC Moderator and used with hundreds of students across the years.

There is about 90 minutes worth of teaching in this PowerPoint.

This PowerPoint covers the concept of stakeholders and their impact on business success. It includes the following key points:

  • Definition of Stakeholders: Stakeholders are individuals or groups with an interest in the actions of a business. They can be internal (e.g., managers, employees, owners) or external (e.g., suppliers, lenders, competitors, customers, government agencies, communities, pressure groups, interest groups).
  • Stakeholder Needs and Conflicts: Different stakeholders have varying needs, which can lead to conflicts. For example, employees need job security and fair wages, while owners may want to maximize profits by minimizing wages.
  • Influence of Stakeholders on Business Success: Internal stakeholders like managers, employees, and owners influence business success through their decisions, productivity, and investments. External stakeholders like suppliers, customers, and community groups also play a significant role through their quality, loyalty, and social media influence.
  • Managing Stakeholder Relationships: Effective management of stakeholder relationships involves communication, consultation, and involving third parties like trade unions and pressure groups. This helps in making informed decisions and maintaining good relations.
  • Stakeholder Mapping: Businesses use stakeholder mapping to understand the relative power and interest of different stakeholder groups. This helps in determining how involved each group should be in the decision-making process.
  • Case Study - Olympic Games: The presentation also includes a case study on stakeholders and the Olympic Games, illustrating the practical application of stakeholder management principles.
