This is a 60±page complete English unit based on the amazing book “Emu” by Claire Saxby.

This is a unit of work I created to support the teaching of the Stage Two Science unit “Living World”, which requires students to reflect upon life cycles. Emu is a perfect text to support the teaching of this unit.

This unit has everything required to teach your reading program for a week, including independent group tasks.

This unit of work Is part of a much larger unit, focussing on the texts of Claire Saxby. Students examine three animal-based texts and use this as a mentor text to create a hybrid text of their own.

Included in this unit of work is:

  • all curriculum links, both ACARA and NESA. English curriculum links are included, as well as HASS/HSIE.

  • embedded oral language prompts, based on Emu.
