KS3 Music Assessment Grid

The KS3 Music Assessment grid evaluates students across three key areas: Performing, Composing, and Listening and Appraising. It uses progressive command words to assess progress.

Performing assesses students’ ability to play or sing with accuracy, expression, and confidence, both solo and in groups.
Composing focuses on creativity, the use of musical elements, and the ability to structure and refine original ideas.
Listening and Appraising measures students’ ability to critically listen, identify musical features, and contextualize and evaluate music thoughtfully.

This resource can be adapted to suit the grading of 1-9.
