INTRODUCTION TO OUR STUDY GUIDES AND OUR LITERATURE AND FILM WORKSHOPS

The activities in this study guide will help to clarify the historical, cultural and cinematographic context. At the same time, students will be able to practise their language skills through the proposed exercises and, those who wish to, can participate in our literature and film workshops, specifically focused on this subject.

This guide to the film Volver is aimed at those students in the British curriculum who are studying A level Spanish.

Our film and literature study guides will increase students’ confidence in their language skills and help them develop the necessary skills to work effectively with their chosen work.

We will work by breaking down each scene, character and theme, in order for students to understand the historical and social context of their chosen film/play/book. It will provide the critical and linguistic skills needed to write a successful essay and help them to:

Strengthen language skills with relevant grammar, vocabulary and writing exercises.
Achieve top marks by creating a bank of examples and quotations to improve their exam answers.
Build confidence with knowledge-testing questions at the end of each chapter.
Reviewing effectively with essential vocabulary pages and key mind-maps
Prepare for the exams with tips on how to write an essay, plus sample essay questions, two levels of model answers and examiner comments.

This guide has been designed to complement our literature and film workshops, in which we further enhance the ability to pass the A level Spanish exam. The workshop offers the opportunity to train both comprehension and conversational skills, designed to explore the predominant themes in the film/play/book, taking into account the A level specification. In addition, a professional team of qualified examiners will provide information on what makes an A* exam and what each individual needs to work on to achieve their target. The day will be conducted mainly in Spanish, which will help to develop students’ listening and comprehension skills, improving performance in all aspects of the exams.
