Matchstick Girls + London Dockers

This lesson investigates the formation of new trade unions at the end of the 19th century. It looks at why the Matchstick Girls’ and the London Dockers’ went on strike in 1888 and 1889 and the consequences of their protests. The depth makes this lesson suitable for KS4 but it could easily be adapted for KS3.

This download includes a fully editable powerpoint with all activities, instructions, clip links and worksheets/information sheets you need. It is differentiated 2 ways where possible with scaffolding and challenge options and is fully planned with plenty of activities for your students to complete including a starter, all clips and related tasks, source/interpretation analysis, 2 mindmaps, a consolidation explain written question and a plenary.
