A worksheet containing a practical keyboard task suitable for a standalone or cover lesson for Year 7 or 8. The tasks ask students to identify the notes of a simple melody (there is a help section on the sheet), then introduces the idea of pentatonic melodies. Students learn to play the piece in pairs, adding a simple drone or ostinato accompaniment. The extension task then asks them to create their own pentatonic note bank and use it to create a new melody. This will easily fill a cover lesson and can also be used for instruments other than keyboards.
