These task cards are designed to help children practice addition between 10 and 20 using number bonds to 10. They can be used as part of a whole-class activity, in small groups, independently, or as part of basket work in an autism class. The cards are also ideal for use with children with dyscalculia, dyslexia, or visual learners.
The cards are part of a comprehensive set of task cards that harness the potential of the rekenrek to explore recognition of number to 100, addition, and subtraction. When used with the other cards in this addition series, children gain a deep understanding of the relationship between numbers. For example, if 6 + 4 = 10, then 16 + 4 = 20.
The cards can be used as stand-alone activities or after the Rekenrek Show, Say, Write cards or Rekenrek identify number cards. Children can show the number on their own Rekenrek and then trace the numbers. By incorporating the Rekenrek, students not only recognize numbers but also deepen their understanding of the relationship between numbers and quantities.
