This resource contains a series of reading and writing activities to support Spanish A Level students studying El laberinto del fauno. It focuses on the different techniques used by del Toro, specifically the use of allegory, the elements of the fairy tale, the use of colour and the different kinds of shots and camera angles.
It also provides the students with several essay questions, independent learning and research opportunities, as well as a checklist to self-assess their essays.

It would be more useful to have the answers. There are lots of questions but not enough information to answer them. It didn't save me any time.

Hi,
Thank you very much for your feedback. I am really sorry that you don’t find the resource more useful. Some of the questions in the resource are closed questions and it would be a good idea to provide the answers, so I’ll do that as soon as I can.
However, my main idea when writing this resource was to use it as a way to direct the students’ attention in the the key aspects of the topic and then encourage them to reflect and discuss those aspects so that they reach their own conclusions.
For instance the section about colour focuses their attention on how cold colours are used in the real world, warm colours in the underworld and green in the transitional scenes. This will hopefully start a discussion in which the students will reflect on why this is the case, what effect it has on the film and on the spectator and so on.
Likewise I tried to highlight the elements of the fairy tale, the use of allegory, different kinds of shots and camera angles: direct the students’ attention those elements, guide them and help them reach their own conclusions.
As I said, I am sorry that the resource hasn’t saved you any time, particularly since it took a lot of mine to write it. I am going to ask AQA to send you my email, so if you contact me I can send you another resource within same price range or, if you prefer, a refund.
Thank you once again for your feedback.

Thanks for this resource. It's fantastic. But I was just wondering if there was an answer key that you could send me for it?

Hi,
Thank you so much for your kind words. It is very encouraging when other teachers find my resources useful.
At the moment I don’t have an answer key, but I am going to use the resource myself this half term, so I’ll see what I can do.
Once again, thank you for your kind words.
