Rules of accentuation in Spanish revolve around two main syllable types (tónicas and átonas), and four main word types (agudas, llanas, esdrújulas and sobresdrújulas). The PowerPoint explains how the different word types have stress on different syllables, which are counted backwards from the end of the word; when the different types of words carry a ‘tilde’ (accent) and why, and some exceptions to these rules.
