The Global Warming Debate - causation or correlation?

(1)
A power point lesson which guides students through data in the form of carbon dioxide levels; global temperature; rising sea levels and glacial melting. Students gain practice in data analysis which is vital in this module. There are also a series of exam questions with answers to support their understanding. This lesson links with Edexcel IAL Unit 4

Bacteria - methods of invading the body

(0)
Edexcel Spec link 6.7 (i) (ii) An introduction to how bacteria are able to spread from one person to another. We then look at how the body protects itself against pathogen entry. This is a circus activity where students gather information from around the room (cards provided). Finally we research how bacteria cause the disease with endotoxins and exotoxins.

Immunity - Non Specific and Specific Responses to Infection

4 lessons focusing on the non-specific and specific responses to infection. I have split the lessons into 4 parts due to the subject material being very complex. The lessons cover Edexcel specification links 6.8 - 6.10 but can be used with other exam boards The lessons have many different opportunities for assessment and recalling previous learnt material.

A Level Edexcel Biology: Unit 4 Focused Exam Questions

(2)
2 A3 PDF worsheets which a range of exam questions covering the topics in the unit Energy, Environment, Microbiology and Immunity. There are many variations of how students could be examined on topics from unit 4. Students can produce model answers in preparation for the exam. I have provided questions on the following topic areas: Photosynthesis - light dependent reaction; Light independent reaction; assimilation of products from photosynthesis; Chloroplast structure; Ecology; decomposition; forensic science; DNA profiling and electrophoresis; succession; aseptic technique; climate change; speciation and evolution; structure of bacteria and viruses; immune response; immunity and vaccination; carbon cycle. Perfect for Retrieval Practice in preparation for the exams. My students wrote a model answer for each question on flash cards

Plant Reproduction - Double Fertilisation

(0)
AS Biology lesson on the process of fertilisation in flowering plants from pollen tube formation to fusion of nuclei. Contains a useful video I found on youtube which explains the process. I have also included a starter activity of labelling the plant parts (IGCSE) and an exam question with mark scheme for self assessment activity.

Edexcel Topic 5 Ecosystems, Productivity and Succession

(1)
A series of 4 lessons covering the following points: GPP = NPP + R Calculating net primary productivity Calculating the effficiency of biomass and energy transfers between trophic levels Terminology Biotic and abiotic factors Concept of niche Stages of succession PPT include many tasks for students to promote independent thinking and learning plus exam style questions and answers.

The Nervous System and Neurones Bundle

(1)
IAL Edexcel Topic 8A Included in this chapter: The structure and function of the mammalian nervous system Nervous transmission Resting and action potential Myelinated neurones and saltatory conduction Synapses Effects of drugs on synapse The detection of light Habituation Included in this selection of powerpoints are videos, exam questions plus tasks throughout the lesson to generate discussion and independent learning.

International A level Biology Unit 3 Core Practical Revision

(1)
I have produced a website for year 12 students to support their studies as they prepare for the unit 3 exam. The website will be supplied on a word document and can be shared with allof your students. Any updates to the course over time will be updated on the website. The website includes video support for each experiment Exam-style questions for each core practical A summary of previous core practicals examined from 2019-2022

Belt Transect Worksheet

(0)
Practical activity - Investigating the changes in the population of a plant species along an environmental gradient. Transect samples are taken systematically in a linear pattern. In this investigation, you will use an interrupted belt transect to investigate the effect of the increase in height (altitude on a hill). Students record their results in the table and plot a scatter graph. A conclusion can then be drawn using their results.

IGCSE Nutrition Revision Map

(0)
Help students prepare their revision for the topic of nutrition. The questions cover both plants and animal nutrition including core practicals (Edexcel). I print the document on A3 paper and it takes around 45 - 50 minutes for able students to complete. I allow the task to be an open book activity in preparation for an exam.

Momentum and Car Safety

I have used my own resources and a few slides from other Tes members (thank you!) to put together a PPT which recalls the equation for momentum and then looks at how to calculate force using the change of momentum and time. There are also exam questions included for extra practice!
