The Black Death was a devastating global epidemic of bubonic plague that struck Europe and Asia in the mid-1300s and is always a fascinating history lesson that children love. This lesson is a focus on the Plague Doctor. Most plague doctors wore a costume, invented in Paris, to protect them during their work. The costume consisted of a heavy fabric overcoat that was waxed, a mask with glass eye openings and a cone nose shaped like a beak.
