**** For a Finance Office invoice, please email me on barronimomusic@gmail.com*** This year’s EDUQAS Music for Film set brief is to create the opening scenes for an exciting documentary about space exploration. I’ve gone DEEP UNDER THE BONNET to unlock what GarageBand can really do. And, boy, was I surprised! Honestly, I hadn’t realised how effective GarageBand can be in composing modern, authentic film music. Time is of the essence! So I’ve put together a bundle of resources to release it as soon as I can, to help your students start composing effective, exciting space documentary music, regardless of ability or prior knowledge, but with plenty of stretch and challenge. Here’s a run-down of the package: Accessible, fun and student-paced video tutorials, detailing GarageBand processes, shortcuts, tips and tricks. 60 minutes of video, broken into bite-sized pieces. Accompanying help-sheets, bullet-pointing each step of the processes. Guaranteed rapid support and feedback from me! Drones: Drones explained, with examples and visual EQ. GarageBand set-up for drones. Using ‘In The Box’ sounds, and why you shouldn’t. Automating parameters, in real time and with the pencil tool. How to screen-grab for evidence and write-up. Creative use of FX, including massive reverb, delay and tremolo BONUS: Advanced techniques in volume automation and pitch-bending. Drum Ostinatos: Drum ostinatos explained. GarageBand set-up for cinematic drums. Real-time input - skilled and ‘chaotic’ with quantisation. Creative use of arpeggiator for percussion. Use of massive orchestral bass drum with FX. Use of miliaristic marching snare drum. Optional use of 6/8 for a rolling feel. BONUS: How to use reverse FX for extra impact. String Ostinatos: Melodic ostinatos explained, with examples. GarageBand set-up with Smart Strings across the string family. Step-by-step ostinato creation with keyboard or mouse. Editing velocities and pitches. Orchestrating across strings with the octave shortcut and staccato articulation. BONUS: creating string ostinatos using double-stops. Making music education resources has been my passion since 2005. Thank you for supporting me, it has meant so much and enables me to produce more content. With your support. my next bundle will include use of harmony and and chordal orchestration, approaches to melody, structural arrangement and, the all-important ‘How to make a Hans Zimmer BRAAMS in GarageBand’!
