This is great for Christmas and Winter fun! The resource is printed in black and white for the students to colour in. ✎ Contents: This resource includes: • 1 worksheet with 24 questions on simplifying algebraic expressions by collecting like terms and expanding single brackets. • 1 colouring answer sheet. • Teachers notes. • All answers. ✦ Objectives: This resource has been designed to practice: • Expanding single brackets. • Collecting like terms. • Simplifying algebraic expressions. • Adding and subtracting the terms of linear expressions. • Identifying when two expressions are equivalent by simplifying. • Adding and subtracting positive and negative numbers. ✽ Directions: Print out the sheet of questions for each student. Alternatively, laminate one set of questions for students to share. Print out a colouring answer sheet for each student. ✦ Notes: Students will expand single brackets and collect like terms to generate equivalent expressions. For example, simplifying -3c + 4(2c + 3d) -2d Each answer occurs twice, once with a number and once with a colour. The matching colour can then be used to colour the picture in a fun colour by number activity. ✷ Suggestions: Students can cut out their completed picture and use it to glue onto a Christmas greeting card. Evaluating Algebraic Expressions Activity There are 2 game boards which can be printed in colour or black and white. The blue and white board is the main playing board. There is also a second easier board (green and white) which can be used for less able students or younger children. ✎ Contents: This resource includes: 2 Game Boards Printable Playing Counters.
