The Porter came up in a Macbeth exam question in 2019 despite having only a few lines in the play, and yet he is an integral character, acting as comic relief and also having a deeper symbolic meaning. We look at how Paris is reintroduced to the audience, how Romeo and Juliet say good bye to each other, how Juliet reacts to her parents’ decision to marry her off to Paris and their reaction to how she behaves after hearing this news. In A Christmas Carol we look in detail at the first half of Stave Four; we analyse how The Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come is presented to Scrooge and the reader, and students work in groups to create their own ghost scenes. Moreover, we look at the different scenes that Scrooge sees and his reactions to each of them, before making predictions about what we think will happen when Scrooge sees the Cratchits once again.A detailed, engaging and fully differentiated lesson.
