Quelle heure est-il?. Comprehensive writing activities for an FSL unit on Telling the Time in French (L’heure) / Clocks in French (Les Horloges). Over 100 pages of worksheets and puzzles on 12 AND 24 hour time (l’heure informelle et l’heure officielle), using analogue and digital clocks, in quarter hour and 5 minute intervals. 12 and 24 hour times are on separate pages so you can focus on one or the other or both. Also includes questions and sentences, linked to sporting activities, opening hours and aspects of daily routine. Support pages and full answer keys included. Great also to link maths measurement learning with French. My French basics resources are made for students beginning French and near beginners in KS2 or early KS3 (Years 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8) and equivalents but they may suit others, depending on experience. Please check the previews to assess suitability. PDF format. 107 pages.
You can purchase this pack as part of a Telling the Time in French BUNDLE, which also includes a pack of printable games and activities and a presentation and flashcards pack.
INCLUDED IN THIS RESOURCE:
Whether you are focusing on the 12 or 24-hour clock – or both – there’s plenty to choose from here. Just select the resources you want. The 12 hour versions of each resource can be found first. In almost all cases, these are then followed by 24 hour versions (except for the maze). The “12h” or “24h” in the top right corner will help you identify them.
The worksheets and puzzles are at various levels of difficulty, all of them differentiated, to provide plenty of variety and challenge for you to select the most appropriate for the range of ages and abilities that you teach.
SUPPORT PAGES: Word mats to display or print for students who require it, for 12 and 24-hour time, and in black and white too. Please note that these support pages are also contained in my printable games packet for this topic.
WORKSHEETS: 10 worksheets (with answer keys), all in both 12 AND 24-hour versions, and all differentiated at least two ways using a star system. The 1-star version is the least challenging, for lower ability, younger or less experienced students and almost all of these focus on quarter hour intervals. Many of the 2-star worksheets are in five minute intervals. For Worksheet 4, the 1-star version is in five minute intervals and the 2-star is to the nearest minute, to provide variety and extra challenge. The two “À quelle heure…?” worksheets (Les Activités / Le Transport) are differentiated 3 ways.
PUZZLES: There’s an airport puzzle, hidden word puzzle and maze. The airport puzzle is differentiated; the other two are not. The maze also does not have a 24h version.

Mental Addition and Subtraction (to one decimal place)
Mental Addition and Subtraction (to two decimal places)
Multiplying by 10, 100 and 1000
Dividing by 10, 100 and 1000
Multiplying using Times Tables Facts
An engaging alternative to standard worksheets, these no prep puzzles can be completed individually or in pairs / groups. They are similar to codebreaker puzzles, with a maths-related word to be revealed after completing the calculations. Each puzzle contains a grid. Within each box is a decimals calculation and a letter. Students circle any boxes containing errors. Then they put together the letters from the remaining boxes to reveal a maths word. Students often forget or avoid checking their own work for errors so it’s great to get them carefully checking the calculations in these puzzles. Spotting common errors may help them remember to check their own work and help them avoid common errors themselves.
Well-differentiated Decimal Place Value Four-in-a-Row Game Boards and Cards: Use for consolidation of decimal place value understanding and ordering decimal numbers (1, 2 and 3 decimal places).
Includes:
• Two sets of 54 decimal number cards featuring numbers from 0.001 to 2.01 (1 set includes numbers up to 2 decimal places, the other up to 3 decimal places)
• Two A3 Four in a Row boards. The 1 star version was originally designed to go with the cards to 2 decimal places, while the more challenging 2 star version was designed for the cards to 3 decimal places. However, both sets of cards would work with either board. It works especially well in A3, however, you could scale down the board to A4 and use the smaller card set supplied.
You could have pairs take on other pairs. Each team of two starts with a set of cards (print each set on different coloured card if you don’t have coloured printing that would allow you to print the different coloured cards supplied, then laminate to use again and again). It works well if each team shuffles their cards, puts them in a pile and takes one from the top at a time, which they then put down on the board if there’s a suitable empty box. They aim to get four of their cards in a row. Each box has a stipulation about the numbers that can be placed on it (no tenths, < 1.5, > 0.31, < 0.56, five hundredths etc). To save printing you could split a set between 2 or 3 boards as a single team won’t require all 54 cards. The cards can also be used separately from the game boards for ordering activities.
Decimal Numbers to 1 Decimal Place Numeracy Treasure Hunt : An active printable mental maths team game, with differentiation, ideal as a whole class starter or plenary, especially when focusing on addition and subtraction of decimals or place value to tenths / one decimal place. It can be played multiple times in a lesson or across several lessons as groups can use different card sets each time. Teams complete a treasure hunt-type chain of decimals calculations, followed by a ‘Find the Target Number’ mental maths challenge, using a mixture of the four operations. There are 54 double-sided cards, forming sets of 6 cards for 9 teams. A key feature is the chance to involve lower ability students in a fun whole class activity to give them a boost of confidence without it being obvious their calculations are less challenging (3 of the sets are at an easier level). Full instructions included, along with solutions.

Build number sense with this KS2 Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 maths BUNDLE of fun printable games and puzzles worksheets for rounding to the nearest 10, 100, 1000, 10000, whole number, 1 decimal place, 2 decimal places and estimating the sum or difference by rounding to ten. All in PDF format. Includes:
17 fun, challenging and strategic estimation and rounding games
7 hidden word puzzles
Great for starters, early finishers, revision or as fun homework tasks
ROUNDING GAMES:
These dice games make students think carefully about where to place digits in order to make each statement on the board correct. As children are allowed to place the digits they roll (or spin) in any row on their side of the board, they will begin to generate tactics and the uncertainty will be prolonged until the final moments!
Many levels of challenge - ideal for differentiation or for use across year groups: includes multiple games for each of rounding to the nearest ten, hundred, thousand, whole number, one decimal place, two decimal places, estimating the sum or difference and one for rounding to the nearest ten thousand
Use as printed worksheets or else laminate (or use in dry-wipe sleeves) and complete with whiteboard pens
Instead of playing in pairs, you might form small groups - pairs could play against pairs instead of one-versus-one and you might appoint a checker who can adjudicate (and then swap roles for the next game). Consider enlarging to A3 for larger groups
Instructions are printed on the board
If you don’t have a 0-9 dice:
Use 0-9 spinners (I have included black and white and colour templates for your convenience) if you wish to make some
Use digit cards (basic digit cards included in the file)
Use a pack of playing cards (use Aces as 1 and Jacks as 0, put aside the Kings and Queens; shuffle the pack and take one card in turn)
ROUNDING HIDDEN WORD PUZZLES:
1 for rounding to the nearest ten
1 for rounding to the nearest hundred
1 for rounding to the nearest thousand
1 for rounding to the nearest whole number
1 for rounding to the nearest one decimal place
1 for rounding to the nearest two decimal places
1 for rounding money to the nearest pound (dollar version also included)
More about hidden word puzzles: Similar to codebreaker puzzles, with a maths-related word to be revealed after the rounding work. Each puzzle contains a grid. Within each box is a number to be rounded and a letter. Once students have rounded all the numbers, they cross out any boxes containing numbers that round to certain specified target numbers. Then they put together the letters from the remaining boxes to reveal a maths word. If the word is more simple, the letters are in random order for students to reassemble. If it is a trickier word (such as a famous mathematician), the letters are already placed in the correct order in the grid. There is a further challenge question / task at the bottom of the page linked to the hidden word.

The dice games features 4, 5, 6 and 7 digit numbers (thousands, ten thousands, hundred thousands, millions) and decimals to 1, 2 and 3 places (tenths, hundredths, thousandths). The puzzles feature 5, 6 and 7 digit numbers. Great for starters, early finisher tasks, extension challenges and homework. All in PDF format. Includes:
17 fun, challenging and strategic games
7 hidden word puzzles
Great for differentiation within the same class or for different year groups
PLACE VALUE GAMES:
Use as printed worksheets or else laminate (or use in dry-wipe sleeves) and complete with whiteboard pens
Instead of playing in pairs, you might form small groups - pairs could play against pairs instead of one-versus-one and you might appoint a checker who can adjudicate (and then swap roles for the next game). Consider enlarging to A3 for larger groups.
There is a mixture of Make the Biggest Number, Make the Smallest Number and Greater or Less Than games
Every turn, players can place the digit they throw on any row or column, until there are no vacant boxes remaining, prolonging the uncertainty! Keeping an eye on each other’s numbers as they form, players will begin to spot new tactics; for instance they might notice that a 1 placed in a thousands place might not be so costly if there’s a 9 in the ten thousands place, depending on what their opponent is doing on their grid. They can also practise saying their completed numbers aloud at the end.
If you don’t have a 0-9 dice, the games still work with a 1-6 dice. Alternatively:
Use 0-9 spinners (I have included black and white and colour templates for your convenience) if you wish to make some
Use digit cards (basic digit cards included in the file)
Use a pack of playing cards (use Aces as 1 and Jacks as 0, put aside the Kings and Queens; shuffle the pack and take one card in turn)
Instructions are printed on the boards.
PLACE VALUE CROSS NUMBER PUZZLES:
2 for numbers up to ten thousands
2 for numbers up to hundred thousands
2 for numbers up to millions
Differentiation: For each of 5, 6 and 7-digit numbers the first puzzle is for practising reading the word version and writing the digit version in the grid, while the second, more challenging puzzle for each involves adding and subtracting from large numbers (increase by 1000, take away five hundred thousand etc)
Works in a similar way to a crossword puzzles but with numbers entered into the grid

Practise the key skill of finding change for different amounts! Key Stage 2 (KS2) Money Change Games and Activities BUNDLE for Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 (Y3 / Y4 / Y5 / Y6), depending on ability: 16 fun, differentiated, illustrated four-in-a-row Maths game boards (each featuring 36 prices in UK currency) for calculating change from £1, £5, £10 and £20, plus a loop card / dominoes set for each of the above amounts. Ideal for starter activities and early finishers activities in Maths lessons or for practice in Money Weeks. All in PDF format. In Scotland, use for Primary 4, 5, 6 and 7.
FOUR IN A ROW
A fun, strategic activity for consolidating this key money / shopping skill. A total of 16 boards.
All four packs (One pound, five pounds, ten pounds, twenty pounds) include:
2 standard game boards (featuring different items and prices from each other)
2 lower ability game boards (same boards as above but with mostly less challenging calculations)
Answer grids for all 4 boards for at-a-glance checking by pupils or teacher
Intended to be laminated and used again and again. Children can work as pairs against pairs or one against one to get four correct answers in a row - horizontally, vertically or diagonally. It works especially well if they roll a dice each time to find which column they have to pick a calculation from (columns numbered 1-6). If there are no questions left in a particular column, they could skip a go or roll again. Pupils use a different coloured whiteboard pen to record answers on the board or add an initial or symbol if both players / teams are using the same colour. I recommend printing in A3 but it works fine in A4. The LA versions have a star next to the title but could perhaps be printed on different coloured card or paper if required.
LOOP GAME / FOLLOW ME CARDS / DOMINOES
Four 20-card sets (£1, £5, £10, £20) that can start with any card. A child reads the ‘I spend’ part first with others working out whether they have the relevant ‘I give you’. Use as a game for groups or perhaps as a whole class / whole group starter or plenary (in pairs if necessary). LA pupils could be given less challenging cards so they can still experience success.

6 Differentiated Four in a Row Games for Fractions of Amounts
54-Card Active Game / Treasure Hunt for Fractions of Amounts
If just focusing on Fractions of Amounts, you may wish to purchase the latter two resource packs in my Fractions of Amounts Games BUNDLE.
If you prefer, you can also purchase the Fractions Puzzles Worksheets as part of my Fractions, Decimals and Percentages BUNDLE
FRACTIONS ACTIVITIES BUNDLE - MORE INFORMATION:
Answer keys included. Please check the individual resource pages and previews to see if these provide an appropriate range of challenge for your students.
PUZZLES WORKSHEETS
An engaging alternative to standard worksheets, these puzzles can be completed individually or in pairs or groups. Similar to codebreaker puzzles, a maths-related word is revealed after completing the work. Each puzzle contains a grid. Within each box is a fraction / calculation and a letter. Students circle any boxes containing incorrect answers or errors such as non-equivalent fractions (depending on which puzzle it is). Then they assemble letters from the circled boxes to reveal a maths word. There’s a further question / task at the bottom of the page linked to the word.
Students often forget or avoid checking their work for errors so it’s great to get them carefully checking in these puzzles. Spotting errors may help them remember to check their own work and help them avoid common errors themselves.
FOUR IN A ROW
Print and laminate the boards for regular use. It was designed in A3 to work especially well with larger groups but you can scale down to print in A4 if required or preferred. There are 6 game boards, two for each level of challenge, indicated with a star system, with one star being the least challenging. The one-star version includes only unit fractions of small numbers. The two-star version includes fractions of larger two-digit numbers, while the three-star version progresses to fractions of three and four-digit numbers.
Students work strategically as pairs against pairs or one against one to get four correct answers in a row - horizontally, vertically or diagonally. They roll a dice each time to decide from which column to pick a calculation (the columns are numbered 1-6). Students write their answers on the board with a dry-wipe marker.
TREASURE HUNT / ACTIVE CARD GAME
This can be played multiple times as groups can use different card sets each time. Teams complete a treasure hunt-type chain of fractions calculations, followed by a ‘Find the Target Number’ mental maths challenge, using a mixture of the four operations. There are 54 double-sided cards, forming sets of 6 cards for 9 teams. A key feature is the chance to involve lower ability students in a fun whole class activity to give them a boost of confidence without it being obvious their calculations are less challenging (3 of the sets are at an easier level). Full instructions included.
You can print and laminate the cards in batches of 3 sets, so if you don’t require them all, you needn’t print them. The cards should be printed double-sided (they’ve been laid out to facilitate this). I print by selecting the ‘2-Sided Short Edge (Top)’ option. However, if you can only print one-sided, print all the even-numbered pages, replace the paper, and print the odd-numbered pages on the back.

Both levels can work well in many classes for differentiation (and the more challenging puzzles can work for consolidation in Year 7 too)

Great for individuals, pairs or small groups
Use for starters, early finishers, homework etc.

Scary Story Writing Prompts:
Use as warm ups, early finishers activities and as a framework for free writing sessions

Prompt questions to get ideas going
A word bank and suggested openers to add variety to their writing
A box at the bottom reminds students to read their work aloud, check for full stops and capital letters and common spellings
Range of scariness levels - Students who get more easily spooked can find prompts to suit them too.
UK and US English versions included, with spellings and references to ‘full stops’ and ‘periods’ etc amended as appropriate
Designed to offer maximum support for dyslexic learners and those with similar barriers to learning. Verdana font and spacing used are both dyslexia-friendly and the background colours are designed to reduce glare. Both the UK and US cards are also included with the background colours removed and could be used if printing on dyslexia friendly paper or card.
Could be used to support the writing of a full story
Could also work well as a regular tool to support struggling writers in one-to-one or small group sessions, where students write a few sentences inspired by the prompts, without worrying about completing a story

MORE INFO ABOUT THE WRITE AND WIPE TRAILS:
They can be used by individuals or you could have pairs or small groups racing against each other to complete trails accurately. Very flexible and great to have in the classroom all year round to use as a meaningful last minute filler.
Starting at the top illustration and working their way around the card in a spiral, children write the answer to each calculation in the box, creating a running total as they go. The final answer is printed at the end of the trail, beside the illustration in the middle of the card, so they can see if they have correctly completed it. If not, children can check their work to see where they have gone wrong.
Answer cards can be used by the pupils themselves or by the teacher to see at a glance where pupils have gone wrong. Print and laminate if required.
I hope your pupils enjoy using these cards. If you can leave me a review I would be very grateful.
