This is a PowerPoint presentation with slides that can be printed as a workbook.
The presentation looks at 23 scenes from the film. Each film has 1 or two discussion questions about the film, with presenter’s notes on how to answer the questions.
It then describes the theme, identifies the theme that it represents, explains how the scene represents this theme and explains how the director, Wolfgang Becker, does this.
A set of reading texts set out as a reporter’s notebook with accompanying activities. The German used is accessible and provides a nice bridge between the work that pupils have been doing at GCSE in terms of grammar and complexity of language and the new vocabulary and topics that they will cover in Year 12.
This is a workbook designed to accompany the Stimmt textbook for GCSE German.
There are 29 pages, including grammar summaries and activites, reading activities, writing tasks and a speaking mat for the topic.
It follows the topic content of the book and provides a range of complementary and supplementary activities. It has references to Bloom’s taxonomy and there is also a poster/diagram to explain these. The second booklet is the Edexcel GCSE German vocabulary for the topic of school in a booklet. The pupils need to translate and then the booklet can be used as a basis for vocab tests and revision.
There is plenty of opportunity for WWW and EBI with spaces for reflection and feedback.
We are using these this year to signpost feedback, AFL and a range of working techniques, including questioning and activities related to Bloom’s taxonomy and I thought I’d share. This has taken a long time to produce, hence the fact that I am putting this one on for sale rather than sharing free of charge (although please do browse my free resources, too). I hope that you find this useful.
There is also a link on the main page to a quiz on Memrise where you will find all the Stimmt Chapter 1 vocabulary.
The document is in publisher and is completely editable. I have supplemented our copy with activities from the Stimmt online course as we have a subscription, but obviously can’t share that version! You could, however, add pages in to match up to the coursebook if you, too, have a subscription.
Thanks!
This is a PowerPoint that you can use to show pupils how to write a nice answer to the topic of Global Issues.
It covers the following language:
How to say what worries you most
A list of problems, economic and social
Environmental problems
Health problems
How to explain what you think is unfair about the situations
Saying what you think should be done about the problems using the subjunctive
Including imperfect and preterite tenses
Using the future tense to say what you will do to help in the future
Using the conditional to say what you would do if you had the chance
This is a video that leads pupils through using a variety of tenses to write a 150-word essay for the Global Issues Topic.
You can use this document to explain to the pupils how the markscheme for the AQA Higher Writing 150 word essay is marked.
It can also be entered into the rubrics on Google Classroom and used to give online feedback (for content, you need to set 10 grades out of the 15 that you will use - I used top and bottom of each band)
It then automatically gives the pupils detailed feedback and all you have to do is enter the grades.
A worksheet that introduces pupils to environment-related vocabulary, including looking at a range of different tenses. There is a reading activity, a translation activity and a prompt for a writing activity that builds on what the pupils have seen over the course of the activities on the sheet.
A good introduction to this topic.
This booklet is set up with a mix of topic pages and grammar exercises:

p10 - Your dream job
p11 - The conditional tense
p12 - The future tense
p13 - Using “wenn”
p14 - Talking about jobs
p15 - Accusative prepositions
It assumes a reasonable level of understanding and would be best suited to year 10 and above.
A series of activities designed to revise the topics and grammar associated with family and relationships. A range of tenses, including perfect, imperfect, future and modal verbs
A booklet with a range of activities and vocabulary to complement the Mira Express 1 SOW 1 so that you can get on with playing, learning, singing, practising and speaking in you lessons. Ideally.
“Crib Notes” as my grandmother would have called them.
This is 10 pages’ worth of summary statements and quote in both German and English on “Goodbye Lenin”.
Have a look at the image at you’ll get an idea of what each of the 10 pages looks like.
This is ideal for revision, essay-setting, question-setting and independent support.
In order to prepare pupils for their Independent Research Project, I have developed the idea of the “Guided Research Project”. I give the pupils two articles on a topic followed by a list of questions on each and questions that ask them to compare and contrast the two articles.
The booklets also include a list of useful IRP phrases.
This GRP is based on “Goodbye Lenin!”. It includes 2 350-word articles for each of the following themes:
Truth and Lies
Political Change
Hopes and Dreams
Old and New
Family Relationships
Each set of two articles is followed by a list of 8-10 questions about the articles and then 3 questions asking the pupils to compare and contrast the articles.
This Resource Book is enough to conduct IRP practice on 5 themes from the film.
A menu that allows pupils to choose their homework activities - the idea is that the starters, mains, sides and desserts are differentiated so that pupils have to choose a number of activities at different levels.
The design seems to appeal to boys in particular!
