Tessellation
Presentation to introduce what tessellation is.
It shows pictures of tessellation in nature then human made tessellation and asks the children what they notice.
It then teaches what tessellation is with picture examples.
It sets children an tessellation hunt activity and then a task to create their own tessellated pattern at the end using 2D shapes.
Bar Graphs
An introduction to the purpose of a bar graph (year 1).
Includes how to read/interpret the data presented in a bar graph and how to make a bar graph (all the key features needed).
Capacity
An introduction to the concept of capacity.
Originally used with a Year 1 class during Home Learning.
It includes an explanation of what capacity is, teaches/recaps the meanings of capacity vocabulary & concepts (more/less, most/least, full/empty).
It includes at the end an activity for the children using informal units of measure.
Need or Want?
This powerpoint facilitates discussions around the concept need or want. I looks at what a human needs to survive and what is a want (something you can live without e.g. ipad).

A price List including all the animals from the book The Great Pet Sale.
Adding 3 Numbers (Bonds to 10)
This resource teaches children a strategy for adding 3 numbers when there is a number bond on the addition e.g. 2+4+8=
It is interactive so the children are given questions to work out then they click on for the answer.
Repeated Addition - multiples of 10
This teaches the concept of repeated addition using multiples of 10, links it to multiplication and introduces basic multiplication of the 10 times table.
Originally used with a year 1 class as a home learning introduction.
Weather Comparison Weekly Chart (Wales and Brazil)
A simple chart enabling the children to compare the weather between Wales and Brazil.
It was used with year 1 as part or our Rio de Vida Context for Learning.
Children are required to draw a weather symbol in each country’s section for each day (key of symbols provided) then put in the temperature of the different countries.
There is then another section for them to add in other information e.g. humidity, precipitation etc.
(A list of options for this section is also included.)

It's All About the Money - Making Amounts
Children are taught that there are different ways to make amounts with money.
The activity encourages problem solving skills where children have to find all the possibilities.
It talks them through doing it step by step and then gives them a task at the end.

This teaches the concept of repeated addition using multiples of 5, links it to multiplication and introduces basic multiplication of the 5 times table.

This presentation teaches children a strategy for adding 3 numbers when there is a ‘double’ in the number sentence e.g. 2+5+2=
It is interactive so children can have a chance to work out the answers and click on to find out the answers.
Adding 3 Numbers (choose a strategy)
This presentation teaches children a strategy for adding 3 numbers when there is a double or a number bond to 10 in the number sentence e.g. 2+5+2=
They have to identify what strategy they are going to use then complete the addition using the strategy.
It is interactive so children can have a chance to work out the answers and click on to find out the answers.
Number Detectives - Missing Number
The presentation teaches children to find the missing number in a number sentence (5+=10).
It shows 2 different techniques to find the missing numbers; using number facts and using counting on strategies.
Money - Making Amounts Virtual Cafe Role-play
The Power point recaps different UK coins (their values).
Then the power point introduces the cafe role-play where children have to calculate the cost of a person’s order and then work out what coins are needed to pay for it.
It goes on to challenge them further to investigate all the combinations of coins that could be used to make the amount.
It finishes with some thinking questions and a final amount investigation (a larger amount needing several coin combinations).

Sidney Snake Problem Solving
A maths problem solving activity where the children are introduced to finding rules and patterns.
Children are introduced to a scenario then taught step by step how to work out the rule and describe the pattern.
They are then given another scenario to work through themselves with another snake and a different pattern.
Used with a year 1 class during home learning.
