I have, who has? is a whole-group lively & communicative language learning game, perfect for practising, reinforcing and refreshing a range of animals in French. The game is ideal for language learning, with a multi-skill focus: listening, speaking and reading, with an important bonus focus on social interaction and participation. It’s perfect for pronunciation practice - I point out particular phonemes, sounds and accents too - such as the silent x on the plural of cheval : chevaux, and this is really useful at ***consolidating accurate French pronunciation. There are 25 animals featured in the game: bee : bird : butterfly : cat : caterpillar : chicken : cow : dog : dolphin : donkey : duck : fish : fox : frog : horse : kangaroo : monkey : mouse : owl : parrot : pig : rabbit : sheep : spider : tortoise / turtle All the animals may not be in my immediate or longer-term learning plan, but the learning objective of the game moves beyond simply learning or consolidating individual units of vocabulary or practising particular grammar points: it’s about actively learning new language too. The images are essentially visual prompts and clues, helping students infer meaning from context. The longer and more complex sentences really help students focus on reading out loud accurately, and think more carefully about language, and how to pronounce it correctly. There is implicit input on grammatical concepts such as singular and plural, adjectival agreement, gender, definite, indefinite and partitive articles and position of adjectives, either preceding or proceeding the particular noun, which can differ from language to language: I’ve found this is really useful for students who may be learning more than one language at a particular time. This is a very successful way of really getting the most of what looks like a straightforward game for consolidating the target vocabulary - it is actually so much more. Laminate the cards if you can: they're more learner-friendly, and last in excellent condition for years, so you'll be able to use them over and over again. Die Farben auf deutsch 12 posters / flashcards These four adjectival agreement posters, with a focus on the colour grün, make an ideal grammar and speaking prompt in***German class*** - for example, I encourage students to look carefully at the similarities and differences between der grüne Regenschirm and die grüne Flasche in the singular, and die grünen Regenschirme and die grünen Flaschen in the plural. I use questions such as Richtig der falsch? die grüne Regenschirme? , really emphasising, even exaggerating pronunciation, so that they can hear the difference in agreement. I often write the questions on the whiteboard too, as it’s equally important that they are able to recognize the differences in the written words too, and to link sound with spelling - all of this means I really make the most from my classroom learning display. PRIMARY SPANISH YEAR 7 SPANISH KS3 SPANISH MONTHS AND SEASONS OF THE YEAR WORD SEARCHES ten differentiated word searches focusing on the months and seasons of the year in Spanish. Files are non-editable in a zipped format. The resource is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use. My students really enjoy practicing their vocabulary with word searches. They like to work independently, either alone, in pairs or in small groups, challenging themselves and each other to progress through the challenges. In general, sopas de letras are a fabulous way of encouraging learners to engage with the written word in Spanish, refreshing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. Word searches are easily differentiated too. In this set, there are five Spanish to Spanish grids, with the Spanish words as prompts. Students then find them in Spanish in the grid. A great way of really consolidating vocabulary is to get students to complete the word list on the grid sheet too. There are also five English to Spanish grids. With these, the prompt words are in English, so students have to know the correct Spanish word in order to find it in the grid. There's a word list to complete on these too. As the challenge increases, the words appear in an increasing number of different directions, and students can identify which directions they're looking for by referring to the arrow key on each grid. The word searches are in landscape format, and each grid has a corresponding answer key, which provide students with an additional opportunity to engage with language, helping them develop more independence in their learning. This kind of activity is useful in a variety of learning contexts: for cover lessons, as starters, refreshers, plenaries or fun-time fillers at any time during the school year. Ideal for Primary French and KS3 French My students love to do these word searches around Christmas time - we do them several times in the run up to Christmas - they really are great for developing reading, writing and spelling in French - and engaging with French Christmas vocabulary too - my older students really enjoy them too. There are 30 French Christmas words, which helps them to develop awareness of some Francophone Christmas traditions and figures, such as Saint Nicolas and Père Fouettard. I also use this as a prompt to stimulate discussion about French Christmas practices and customs, and we talk about what students know about other Christmas traditions around the world. The nouns feature masculine and feminine, singular and plural and both definite and indefinite articles, which is a great way of working on and consolidating those grammatical concepts too. Word searches are really easily differentiated: there are 5 French to French grids, as well as an English word list that they have to complete, really putting their knowledge to the test. There are also 5 English to French grids, where the prompt words are given in English, and learners have to find the French equivalent in the grid - they also have to complete the French word list on each page for extra spelling and vocabulary practice. The challenge gets more intense through the grids - students can tell in which direction the words are written by looking at the arrow key on each grid. Search grids and answer keys are in landscape format. There’s a reference list of all the French Christmas words too - this is a really useful support resource to ensure all learners can do the searches. They’ll have to look carefully at some of the words though - for a little extra challenge, sometimes I’ve changed words slightly - such as using an elf’, where the reference list shows***the elves***’. The produce is free to download, but Terms of Use still apply. Die Farben auf Deutsch - 8 posters / flashcards These four my favourite colour posters make an ideal speaking prompt in the Primary German classroom - I encourage children to ask each other Was ist deine Lieblingsfarbe? as a lesson starter / warm-up, and to select a different colour every time they answer. As they learn more colours, their answers become more varied. I tend to introduce the plural form with the connective und (and) quite quickly, so that children can extend their answers as much as they possibly can - they have great fun seeing who knows the most colours, and can create the longest answers. The key colours are: blue, green, pink and yellow. There are two backgrounds to choose from - either the German flag, or plain without frame, to keep prep costs to a minimum. Laminate the posters if possible, or print on card stock, particularly if you’re going to use them as flashcards to introduce and practise language too: they’ll display really nicely, and remain in excellent condition for years. It may not be copied, rewritten, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use. These French animals display posters / flashcards create a fabulous French look and feel in the learning environment. I’ve found that this also helps promote French as a living language, featuring in the everyday life of beginner learners of French. They introduce learners to a range of animals in French from the very beginning of their learning, and they are able to familiarize themselves with how French words ‘look’, and how sounds are represented in the written form. Students definitely notice the different words for a/an, and ask why some animals are un, and others are une. I’ve used this as a useful prompt to introduce the concept of gender. There are 20 animals using the masculine and feminine indefinite article, which is a great opportunity to begin to compare French to English. I’ve chosen a couple of insects and birds, as well as animals that feature in very popular stories, such as ours and loup. Looking at language, and the ways it works, either similarly to, or differently from their first language, helps learners become implicitly aware of linguistic concepts in both languages, which I’ve found to be really useful for both current and later learning. The animals are: a bear : a bee : a bird : a butterfly : a cat : a dog : a fish : a fox : a frog : a horse : a kangaroo : a monkey : a mouse : an owl : a parrot : a rabbit : a spider : a squirrel : a turtle / a tortoise : a wolf It doesn’t matter if some of the animals don’t feature in your immediate or even longer-term learning plan: the posters / flashcards provide learners with daily opportunities to engage with the written word in French, to develop their recognition and recall of individual words, to identify cognates and near-cognates, and to begin to link spelling with sound in French. They also help learners begin to work out the meaning of new and unknown words from visual clues or prompts. There are three sets of 20 9.5x11 (A4) portrait posters, each with a different background for you to choose from: French flag, animal footprint or black wave. Please read the Terms of Use. An instant introduction to the scope of the Francophone world, promoting French as a living language, spoken widely across the world, and featuring in the everyday life of the learning environment. There are countries or regions where a significant number of the population speak French as either their first or second language, such as Viet Nam. Each flashcards / poster shows the continent, country and capital city in French, and its national flag. There may be a number of countries and capital cities that students do not know, or are not aware of, so the word wall definitely helps them fully develop their general awareness, knowledge and understanding of Les pays francophones - students are often genuinely amazed at the scope of the French-speaking world - French is spoken on every continent! I’ve used the definite article, as I’ve found that this helps embed the concept of gender in French, and that proper nouns, such as countries, are subject to gender agreement rules too. The flashcards / posters are 8.5 x 11 (A4) portrait size. There are two backgrounds to choose from - French flag or plain, so 80 flashcards / posters in total. Ideal for***beginner German*** students, helping them to familiarize themselves with the concept of conjugation in German, and to engage with German personal pronouns. The word searches are great for independent learning. Haben and sein are key German verbs, and it’s a good idea to introduce them to students as soon as possible, so that they can begin to build and create their own sentences from a very early stage in their learning. Each grid is in landscape format, 8.5 x 11 cm (A4). The grids increase in challenge, and students can see which direction the words are in by the arrow key. There are 5 German to German grids, where they are prompted with the German verb, and look for it in the grid. For additional consolidation, there’s an English verb list to complete. There are also 5 English to German grids, where the prompt is in English, and they look for the equivalent in German in the grid. They also have to complete a German verb list. There is an answer key for each word search, giving students an additional opportunity to engage with the language, and they really enjoy correcting their own, and particularly each others’ work - answer keys are also great for helping students develop more independence in their learning, and are a great teacher time-saver too. GERMAN SEPARABLE VERBS PERFECT TENSE

(4)
GCSE GERMAN KS4 GERMAN KS3 GERMAN SEPARABLE VERBS CONJUGATION PRACTICE 25 high-frequency German separable verbs, 150 conjugation questions, 3 differentiated challenges, answer keys ideal for advanced KS3 German students who are working with more complex language and texts, and KS4 German students who are revising tense and conjugation. My students really like this kind of grammar activity, as they like to work and learn independently, which is a successful way of varying teaching and learning methodologies - I’ve found it’s really important to avoid predominantly teacher-led learning in the languages classroom. The focus is on common separable prefixes such as ab, an, aus, ein, um and zu. Prefixes such as entlang and entgegen are not included in this particular collection of verbs. I find it useful to remind students of a number of things when focusing on or revising tense and verb conjugation. For example with the perfect tense, students need to have a good grasp of the relevant auxiliary in the present tense - there are verbs that require either haben or sein, and to get used to ensuring that the past participle is situated at the end of the clause or sentence. Forming the past participle follows a certain pattern, which students are able to***identify and predict*** the more they work with conjugation, and these quick conjugations will certainly help to embed that successfully. The resource has the following structure: Two alphabetical verb reference lists: German-English and English-German. Three conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations: Conjugation Challenge 1: each verb conjugated in German across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English verb conjugation. Conjugation Challenge 2: gives the infinitive of each verb in German, specifying the target pronoun. Students write the corresponding verb conjugation in German. Conjugation Challenge 3: students write the corresponding German verb conjugation, and its infinitive, from an English prompt. Notes and Next Steps sheet, which encourages students to think about how their understanding of German conjugation works, what progress they have made, what their targets for improvement might realistically be, and what they might reasonably do in order to meet those targets. answer key Have a browse in my store for more German grammar activities, and a wide range of other German teaching and learning resources, with special offer bundles, and lots of freebies too! SPANISH VOCABULARY CHRISTMAS GAMES CARDS & QUIZZES

(2)
KS3 CHRISTMAS PRIMARY SPANISH VOCABULARY CHRISTMAS ACTIVITIES TWO SETS @ £1.80 EACH IN THE BUNDLE 396 BEGINNER SPANISH & ENGLISH VOCABULARY CARDS, 198 WORDS & PHRASES WITH TWO MULTI-SKILL 60-QUESTION QUIZZES I think that lessons in the run-up to Christmas provide the perfect opportunity to revisit language we’ve learnt earlier in the school year - my beginner Spanish students really enjoy going back over and consolidating the vocab that they were introduced to right at the beginning of their learning. I created various sets of Christmas-themed vocab cards to get them feeling festive - it definitely works! I tend to have several sets all ready, and keep them in learning folders, so that students can choose which vocab groups they want to work on, though often they like to work with the complete set, so it’s a good idea to have a couple of sets so that there are enough to go round. The Santa cards have vocabulary in the following word groups: = Los saludos = Los días de la semana = Los meses del año = Las cuatro estaciones del año = Los números 0 a 31 = Los colores = Los países del mundo The Snowmen cards have vocabulary in the following word groups: = Los animales (indefinite article, all singular) = Las partes del cuerpo (definite article, range of singular and plural) = El tiempo = Las frutas y verduras (definite article) = Las asignaturas (definite article) My students really like to learn independently, and I’ve described a range of games that they particularly enjoy. They love the competitive element of the whole-group quizzes, though the pdf version works really well too for small groups - and if you’re homeschooling. There are a lot of cards, which means quite a bit of prep - if you can, laminate them, not only because they’re far better to learn with, but also because you’ll be able to use them over and over again for years! The quizzes are no-prep, and good to go - they’re non-editable, because of the Terms of Use of the clipart and fonts I’ve used, so have a quick look through before you play - the whole-group version moves forward with a single click. The Santas and Snowmen are also available separately, priced at £3 each. Files are non-editable in a zipped format. The product is copyright, all rights reserved. CHILLOUT CHALLENGE features the verbs in alphabetical order, GERMAN to English CHAMPION CHALLENGE features the verbs in topsy-turvy order, GERMAN to English SUPERCHARGED CHALLENGE features the verbs in topsy-turvy order, ENGLISH to GERMAN - your students will really have to know their GERMAN verbs to complete this sequence in record time! I’ve included reference sheets of all verbs in both alphabetical and topsy-turvy order for students to use as a learning support resource. I’ve classed the game as suitable for ages 11-18, because it really does depend on when your students begin GERMAN - the games work well with any appropriate year group, depending on their starting point. There’s a bit of prep - printing and cutting out. I always laminate my dominoes games because they last for years, so laminating is definitely worth the time and effort. The resource is non-editable. NEWLY-UPDATED POSTERS COMING SOON! PRIMARY FRENCH YEAR 7 FRENCH ANIMALS FLASHCARDS POSTERS **CREATE AN INSTANT INTRODUCTION TO THE ANIMAL KINGDOM IN YOUR CLASSROOM IN FRENCH - PERFECT FOR READING, SPEAKING AND PRONUNCIATION PROMPTS TOO! ** This set of 20 A4 portrait posters offers a great introduction to the animal kingdom in FRENCH. The posters also create a fabulous FRENCH feel and look to your learning environment, as a ‘general’ display, or for when you are focusing specifically on animals in your FRENCH lessons. They’re useful as a visual prompt for gender and indefinite article, and work really well as flashcards too. It doesn’t matter if some of the animals don’t feature in your immediate or even longer-term learning plan: the posters give learners daily opportunities to engage with the written FRENCH word, to develop their recognition and recall of individual words and cognates, and to begin to link spelling with sound in FRENCH. They’re a great prompt for cross-curricular learning too, particularly when learners are exploring the animal kingdom and habitats in science. Featured in this set: - bee - bull - chicken - cow - crocodile - dinosaur - donkey - duck - goat - gorilla - hippopotamus - monkey - parrot - pig - polar bear - rhinoceros - spider - tiger - tortoise - wolf This resource consists of a single, non-editable file. FRENCH CHRISTMAS ACTIVITIES - CHRISTMAS IS ON ITS WAY! 99 BEGINNERS FRENCH WORDS & PHRASES, 198 MATCHING FRENCH & ENGLISH VOCAB CARDS WITH A 60-QUESTION MULTI-SKILL QUIZ! I think students appreciate the chance to try something new in lessons during the run-up to Christmas, and I always have several sets of vocab cards that they can revisit language we learnt earlier in the year - it really is the perfect time to practice and consolidate knowledge. The Christmas theme gets them feeling pretty festive, and they’re more than happy to work independently together, selecting the areas of vocab they feel they’d like to focus on. There are lots of games they enjoy playing, and I’ve described several that are really popular. The quiz works well as a whole-group quiz, but I always give my students a pdf version that they can load on to tablets to play the quiz in small groups if they prefer to do it that way. The French vocabulary I’ve focused on here is a selection of: Les salutations Les jours de la semaine Les mois de l’année Les quatre saisons de l’année Les nombres 0 à 31 Les couleurs Quelques pays du monde Please read the Terms of Use carefully.
