FRENCH ER VERBS PLUPERFECT TENSE
ALEVEL FRENCH GCSE FRENCH PLUPERFECT TENSE CONJUGATION PRACTICE 25 high-frequency regular French ER verbs, 150 conjugation questions, 3 differentiated challenges, answer keys. My students really like this kind of grammar activity, as they like to work and learn independently, which is a successful way of varying teaching and learning methodologies - I’ve found it’s really important to avoid predominantly teacher-led learning in the languages classroom. The workbook is ideal for A Level French students who are beginning to work with more complex language and texts in French, including authentic resources, and developing their knowledge of tense and mood in French.
The workbook focuses on formation and conjugation, rather than usage, though it’s definitely useful to remind students of a number of things when focusing on or revising tense and verb formation and conjugation. For example, language learners do often try to conflate what they know about grammar in their first language, with the grammar of the language they are learning, and with students whose first language is English , I frequently see students using avoir instead of être for verbs which require the auxiliary être. Students do need to to have a good grasp of the relevant auxiliary verbs in the imperfect tense to ensure that they can form the pluperfect tense accurately. In terms of the past participle, students begin to be able to predict it accurately, the more they see it, and construct it.
The resource has the following structure:
Two alphabetical verb reference lists: French-English and English-French.
Three conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations:
Conjugation Challenge 1: each verb conjugated in French across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English verb conjugation.
Conjugation Challenge 2: gives the infinitive of each verb in French, specifying the target pronoun. Students write the corresponding verb conjugation in French.
Conjugation Challenge 3: students write the corresponding French verb conjugation, and its infinitive, from an English prompt.
Notes and Next Steps template which students visit regularly - it really does encourage them to think about where they are now, how confident they feel, and what they might need to work on a little more to be absolutely sure of their conjugation skills.

FRENCH ANIMALS CARDS
FRENCH FOR CHILDREN PRIMARY FRENCH KS3 FRENCH ANIMALS VOCABULARY CARDS perfect for young learners of French and an ideal introduction to the animal kingdom in French. They provide lots of opportunities to learn a range of animals, both***masculine and feminine***, and really do help to create a lively language learning environment. Children can develop their skills in word recognition and recall, pronunciation, speaking, listening and reading in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. They’re a great way of introducing the concept of gender, and of looking at the indefinite article in French too.
It doesn’t matter is any of the animals don’t feature in your immediate or even longer-term learning plan: the card games encourage children to engage happily and confidently with French, to identify cognates and near-cognates, and to begin to link spelling with sound in French. They also help learners begin to work out the meaning of unknown words using both visual clues and prompts, as well as linguistic indicators.
There are 24 animals featured, across a series of decks, which enable you to vary and differentiate your games:
Deck 1: picture and words cards, with both an image of, and the word for, the animal in French, which is useful for multi-skill learning, particularly in the introductory phase of learning animal vocabulary, and for familiarising students with the written word in French.
Deck 2: picture-only cards, useful for vocabulary recall
Deck 3: word-only cards in French, useful for word recognition, reading and spelling.
Deck 4: word-only cards in English, useful for a variety of games focusing on vocabulary recall
Deck 5: both French & English words on a single card, useful for close comparison of language, and recognition of corresponding words
Play the games regularly for maximum benefit. I’ve described a range that work well with my classes. Playing against a timer adds some extra fun - can children beat their own time record?

GERMAN CHRISTMAS VISUAL VOCABULARY LIST FREEBIE
PRIMARY GERMAN KS3 GERMAN CHRISTMAS VOCABULARY WORDS & PICTURES A great German Christmas picture & vocabulary reference resource for younger learners of German. It works well when students keep them carefully in learning files or folders for current and future reference. They also work well printed double-sided and laminated for small-group work in class.
There are 20 common German Christmas words with pictures that I’ve found ideal for children learning German. I’ve used the definite article, with masculine, feminine and neuter - there are some plurals too. I use this to stimulate discussion about gender and forming the plural in German. It’s also great for promoting discussion about***Christmas traditions and practices in Germany, and other German-speaking countries***, comparing them to other Christmas customs with which students are familiar. Over time, I encourage students to add to the list - by the end of their German learning program, they’ll have a comprehensive German Christmas vocabulary bank.

GERMAN IMPERFECT TENSE CONJUGATION PRACTICE
GCSE GERMAN KS3 GERMAN KS4 GERMAN IMPERFECT TENSE 25 high-frequency German verbs in the imperfect tense. The quick conjugations have always been really popular with my students, who find them a great way of practising, reinforcing and revising how to conjugate essential verbs in German. I’ve used them in a range of contexts too, such as independent work either in class time or at home, holiday refresher work, or individual activities for cover lessons. I give my students regular opportunities to work through the same conjugations until they feel confident about how German conjugation ‘works’, and are able to recognize patterns and so predict conjugation accurately.

ADVANCED GERMAN A LEVEL GERMAN FUTURE PERFECT TENSE CONJUGATION PRACTICE 25 high-frequency German separable verbs, 150 conjugation questions, 3 differentiated challenges, answer keys ideal for advanced German students who have a sound understanding of conjugation and tense in German, are working regularly with the notion of a range of tenses and mood in German, and have a solid grasp of verbs that are conjugated with either haben or sein in the relevant tenses. It’s actually really useful to introduce the future perfect tense in German fairly closely with the conditional perfect tense, as the patterns are identical, other than the auxiliary tense, and it allows students to compare and contrast the tenses, and to practise both fairly simultaneously - in my experience, students do not confuse or mix up the tenses when they’re learning and using them together… The focus is on common separable prefixes such as ab, an, aus, ein, um and zu. Prefixes such as entlang and entgegen are not included in this particular collection of verbs.

PRIMARY LATIN KS3 LATIN NUMBERS & ROMAN NUMERALS Numbers 0-10 and Numbers & Roman Numerals 0-20: 20 differentiated word searches with answer keys : two sets of ten differentiated word searches @ £1.75 each I’ve found that word searches are the ideal activity for young and beginner students of Latin to engage with the written word in Latin, at the same time developing essential beginner Latin vocabulary. They’re really versatile too - great for cover lessons, as starters, refreshers, plenaries or fun-time fillers at any time during the school year, as well as when you’re introducing this particular target language in Latin. They are easily differentiated - and the grids have an increasing level of challenge, to ensure that all students can feel confident about their learning - and lots of chances to keep challenging themselves. I’ve indicated the direction the words are located in the grids with arrows.
The focus is on key beginner Latin vocabulary:
Latin numbers 0-10
Latin numbers & Roman Numerals 0-20
In Set 1, There are five Latin-Latin grids - the prompt words are in Latin, and the grid words are also in Latin. Each grid is progressively more challenging. There are also five English-Latin grids - the prompt word is in English, and students have to find the Latin equivalent in the grid. On each grid there’s a number list they have to complete too for extra consolidation and practice. The grids are in landscape format.
In Set 2, there are 5 Latin to Latin grids, where learners are prompted with the Latin words, and look for them in Latin in the grid. For additional consolidation, each grid also features an English word list that they have to complete, really putting their knowledge to the test. Grid 5 increases the challenge by prompting the Latin numbers as gap fills. There are 2 English to Latin grids, where the prompt words are given in English, and learners have to find the Latin equivalent in the grid. For additional consolidation and practice in writing in Latin, they also complete the Latin word list on each page. Grid 8. is also Latin to Latin, where learners have to make a simple calculation in order to establish what Latin word they are looking for in the grid, and again they write out the Latin number in a separate column. Grids 9 & 10 prompt with Roman Numerals, and learners also complete the word column in Latin. The grids are in portrait format.
There is an answer key grid for each word search, so that learners can check their answers - or use for a little extra help if they need it. Answer keys are an essential and integral element of the learning activity: they provide students with an additional opportunity to engage with language, also helping them develop more independence in their learning. They genuinely enjoy correcting their own - and especially each others’ work - and they’re a great teacher time-saver too, which is always a good thing!

Grammar books are not consistent with grammatical terminology, so in this context, the conditional perfect is I would have opened or I would have got up for example. I’ve used hätte & past participle or wäre & past participle as ich würde aufgemacht haben or ich würde aufgestanden sein are no longer commonly used in the way that ich hätte aufgemacht or ich wäre aufgestanden are for example. The conjugation is structured in the same way as the Konjunktiv II Plusquamperfekt, which is often called the pluperfect subjunctive in English grammatical terminology, though of course, the usage is different.

GERMAN ANIMALS FLASHCARDS POSTERS #1
PRIMARY GERMAN KS3 GERMAN ANIMALS DEUTSCHE TIERE FLASHCARDS POSTERS These German animals display posters / flashcards create a fabulous German look and feel in the learning environment. I’ve found that this also helps promote German as a living language, featuring in the everyday life of beginner learners of German. They introduce learners to a range of animals in German from the very beginning of their learning, and they are able to familiarize themselves with how German words ‘look’, and how sounds are represented in the written form. My younger German students really love the animals posters, and like to compare the German and English words. I’ve found that they also help very young children develop their growing understanding of the animal kingdom. We don’t necessarily learn all the animals, but we do use them for pronunciation and speaking practice, and for memory games too. Students definitely notice the different words for the, and ask why some animals are der, and others are die or das. I’ve used this as a useful prompt to introduce the concept of gender.
Use them as flashcards to introduce and practise language too - it’s a traditional and successful low-tech teaching method, which gives students a welcome break from the whiteboard - varying teaching methodologies in the language learning classroom is always a good idea, and I also encourage my students to take the role of the teacher too, which they find really motivating.
There are 20 animals using the masculine, feminine and neuter definite article, which again is a great opportunity to begin to compare German and English, looking particularly closely at capitalization of nouns. I’ve chosen a couple of insects and birds, as well as animals that feature in very popular stories, such as Bär and Wolf.

This list is a first collection of 25 high-frequency English adjectives that I’ve found are ideal for beginner English into intermediate English learning programmes - it’s an important step in learning is to ensure that students quickly develop a useful English adjectives vocabulary bank, are able to recognise English adjectives, and are confident with the meaning of those adjectives in German - at that point we can move swiftly on to looking at comparing adjectives in English and German, most particularly the lack of adjectival endings and agreement in English, which is a new concept for German speakers. With a broader and richer adjectives vocabulary, students are able to produce more complex and descriptive language, and using the adjectives in a communicative and practical context, which is essential for progressing in language learning.
The purpose of the list isn’t to simply learn all 25 adjectives by rote: it’s a longer-term reference resource that students use for example when they’re writing creatively, preparing written texts, or working with their talk partner to develop speaking skills. My students also use their vocabulary reference lists to help them audit their developing English vocabulary in general.

Students shouldn’t take on the task of learning 35 conjunctions and connectives all at once though - this is more of a longer-term reference resource that students can use to audit their developing English vocabulary, and it is definitely the case that frequent and regular use in real-world practical contexts is far more successful at embedding vocabulary into longer-term memory.

GERMAN ADJECTIVES FOR GCSE #2
A LEVEL GERMAN GCSE GERMAN KS5 GERMAN KS4 GERMAN ADJECTIVES 400 high-frequency German adjectives, listed alphabetically German-English ideal for advanced KS4 German students, and as a refresher and vocabulary audit for those moving into advanced German / A Level German. It’s useful to give the book to beginner German students too, as it provides a language road map with learning goals, outlining the adjectives they should ideally know by a specific stage in their learning.
We use the Notes and Next Steps template to think about progress and vocabulary knowledge. Students find this really useful, and do like to map and track their own progress. It can be helpful in guiding and informing whole-group discussion about learning and progress in general, which is a really useful learning activity too - students also note down any new German adjectives they learn, enabling them to build a really comprehensive adjective vocabulary reference resource.

These English present tense task cards focus on the use of the present simple and present continuous / progressive tense in English. The language level is advanced beginner English into intermediate English. These kinds of question card activities are perfect for language learners, really helping to create a lively language learning environment. Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their developing knowledge of two key forms of the present tense in English in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher.
The cards have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling in English. They’re great for helping students familiarise themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling in English in general, and certainly in the use of these tenses in particular. The cards are useful not only when you’re focusing on this particular grammatical concept, but also as an all-year-round starter, plenary and general ‘pick-me-up’ activity, as the goal is not simply to practise using the tenses, but also to enjoy working with English, and to feel confident about doing so. The questions range in complexity and challenge, and it can be useful to read through the questions with the whole class first to check everyone is able to access the language, and therefore the activity, successfully.

36 differentiated question cards, 6 per A4 (8.5 x 11) paper. Print, laminate and cut out. Laminating is definitely worth the extra prep time and expense, as they’re far more learner-friendly, and they last in good condition for years.
answer recording sheet - we often also just use our class workbooks for this, particularly for this set, as the sentences are fairly long, so their class workbooks give them plenty of space to write.

GERMAN ADJECTIVES FOR GCSE #3
A LEVEL GERMAN GCSE GERMAN KS5 GERMAN KS4 GERMAN ADJECTIVES 400 high-frequency German adjectives, listed alphabetically English-German ideal for advanced KS4 German students, and as a refresher and vocabulary audit for those moving into advanced German / A Level German. It’s useful to give the book to beginner German students too, as it provides a language road map with learning goals, outlining the adjectives they should ideally know by a specific stage in their learning.
We use the Notes and Next Steps template to think about progress and vocabulary knowledge. Students find this really useful, and do like to map and track their own progress. ENGLISH FOR GERMAN SPEAKERS PREPOSITIONS LIST FREEBIE
ESL EFL ENGLISCH ENGLISH PREPOSITIONS FOR GERMAN-SPEAKING LEARNERS OF ENGLISH an instant English language reference resource for German-speaking students focusing on high-frequency English prepositions. I’ve found that the lists are a great learning support resource, and they’re really popular with students too. They work well when students keep them carefully in learning files or folders for current and future reference, either in class or at home. They also work well printed double-sided and laminated for small-group work in class.
This list is a collection of 45 high-frequency English prepositions, ideal for advanced beginner English students into intermediate English students. It’s also really useful for advanced English students to audit their general high-frequency English vocabulary. They are common English prepositions, so they will see, hear and use them regularly in daily life.
It’s an important step in language learning to ensure that students quickly develop a useful vocabulary bank, are able to recognise key target language vocabulary, and are confident with the meaning of that vocabulary in their first and / or home language - at that point they can move on to looking at using the prepositions in a communicative and practical context. Students shouldn’t take on the task of learning all prepositions at once though - this is more of a longer-term reference resource that students can use to audit their developing English vocabulary, adding to the list as their knowledge grows. It is definitely the case that frequent and regular use in real-world practical contexts is far more successful at embedding vocabulary into longer-term memory.
There are two alphabetical lists - one English-German, and one German-English, as I’ve found that beginner language students prefer to have both as a reference resource. There are two backgrounds to choose from - England flag (which looks good as grammar / vocabulary display), and black wave - students tell me that this makes vocabulary lists more visually appealing, which is really useful when they’ve got a lot of vocabulary to work through and learn.

ENGLISH FOR GERMAN SPEAKERS ENGLISH ANIMALS CARDS
ENGLISCH ESL EFL ENGLISH FOR GERMAN SPEAKERS ENGLISH FOR CHILDREN ENGLISH ANIMALS VOCABULARY CARDS learn a range of animals, and help to create a lively language learning environment. Children can develop their skills in word recognition and recall, pronunciation, speaking, listening and reading in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. They’re a great way of looking at the indefinite article in English, and comparing the concept of gender in both languages too.
It doesn’t matter is any of the animals don’t feature in your immediate or even longer-term learning plan: the card games encourage children to engage happily and confidently with English, to identify cognates and near-cognates, and to begin to link spelling with sound in English. They also help learners begin to work out the meaning of unknown words using both visual clues and prompts, as well as linguistic indicators.
There are 24 animals featured, across a series of decks, which enable you to vary and differentiate your games:
Deck 1: picture and words cards, with both an image of, and the word for, the animal in English, which is useful for multi-skill learning, particularly in the introductory phase of learning animal vocabulary, and for familiarising students with the written word in English.
Deck 2: picture-only cards, useful for vocabulary recall
Deck 3: word-only cards in English, useful for word recognition, reading and spelling.
Deck 4: word-only cards in German, useful for a variety of games focusing on vocabulary recall
Deck 5: both English & German words on a single card, useful for close comparison of language, and recognition of corresponding words
Laminate the cards if you can, even though it’s extra prep and expense, as they are far-more learner-friendly, and last for years, so it’s definitely worth it. I have a set with decks on different colour paper: although it can reduce challenge in games, for absolute beginners it’s very useful, and also ensures learners with additional needs have extra support so that they can participate fully in the games and activities. Remember to vary the decks in the games to ensure maximum differentiation and challenge.

GERMAN SEPARABLE VERBS CONDITIONAL TENSE
GCSE GERMAN KS4 GERMAN KS3 GERMAN CONDITIONAL TENSE REGULAR VERBS CONJUGATION PRACTICE 25 high-frequency German separable verbs, 150 conjugation questions, 3 differentiated challenges, answer keys ideal for advanced KS3 German and KS4 German students who are beginning to work with compound sentences and longer texts, and generally developing their knowledge and understanding of conjugation and tense in German.
The workbook focuses on the correct conjugation of verbs, rather than usage, but I definitely find it useful to remind students of a number of things when focusing on or revising tense and verb conjugation. For example, although usage of the conditional tense in both English and German is largely similar, there are some differences, notably the position of the accompanying key verb in the infinitive form at the end of the clause or sentence, rather than directly following the auxiliary. Students also need to have a good grasp of the relevant auxiliary, in this case werden in the conditional tense. Conjugating werden in the conditional tense, and placing it together with the accompanying verb in the infinitive form is a fixed pattern, with which students become very familiar and confident the more they work with conjugation in this tense.
The resource has the following structure:
Two alphabetical verb reference lists: German-English and English-German.
Three conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations:
Conjugation Challenge 1: each verb conjugated in German across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English verb conjugation.
Conjugation Challenge 2: gives the infinitive of each verb in German, specifying the target pronoun. Students write the corresponding verb conjugation in German.

GCSE GERMAN KSS3 GERMAN KS4 GERMAN FUTURE TENSE CONJUGATION PRACTICE 25 high-frequency German separable verbs, 150 conjugation questions, 3 differentiated challenges, answer keys and verb lists ideal for advanced KS3 German students who are beginning to work with compound sentences and longer texts, and generally developing their knowledge and understanding of conjugation and tense in German. My students really like this kind of grammar activity, as they like to work and learn independently, which is a successful way of varying teaching and learning methodologies - I’ve found it’s really important to avoid predominantly teacher-led learning in the languages classroom. The focus is on common separable prefixes such as ab, an, aus, ein, um and zu. Prefixes such as entlang and entgegen are not included in this particular collection of verbs.
I tend to introduce the future tense along with the conditional tense, as I’ve found this can help students consolidate the pattern of conjugation very quickly, and it also helps them understand the distinction between will and would, particularly the fine distinction between the notion of intent in both German and English. Though the workbook focuses solely on the correct conjugation of verbs, and does not look at word order in the context of full sentences, there are fixed conjugation patterns that students can learn, recognize and apply, ensuring that their spoken and written German is accurate, and that their understanding of German across the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing is robust.
